Frontier launches cost-optimised DAB solution for Automotive aftermarket

London, 8 October 2018:

Frontier Smart Technologies, a pioneer in technologies for Digital Audio, announces the launch of its 3rd generation AutoDAB software for automotive aftermarket DAB digital radios.

This new software will enable brands and manufacturers to design robust innovative automotive products in advance of the switch-off of FM services in Switzerland which is expected to begin in 2020/21.

AutoDAB 3.0 is a major upgrade to Frontier’s established AutoDAB software platform, which provides software for automotive digital radio modules. AutoDAB has been deployed by leading brands, such as Sony and Pure, for several years.

The new version of AutoDAB retains the key features of the previous generation of the platform, including DAB/DAB service following, recommendations for DAB/FM service following and multiple pre-set options.

AutoDAB 3.0 introduces several features which will enhance end-product functionality and reduce unit costs. It also comes with tools to help manufacturers accelerate their time to market.

The major new features include:

superior service-following based on improved algorithms to detect signal degradation combined with new autonomous service following functionality
enhanced announcements and warnings to comply with the latest DAB standards
simple profile Slideshow for streaming images to the host processor
AutoDAB 3.0 is designed to work with Frontier’s 4th generation digital radio chip, Kino 4, which provides a single, integrated chip solution for DAB processing and RF reception. For manufacturers, the benefits of the single chip solution are smaller size, easier integration and lower bill of materials.

AutoDAB 3.0 also comes with tools to help manufacturers in the design and testing of new automotive aftermarket products – to help accelerate time-to-market.

Lead customers are currently designing AutoDAB 3.0 into new products, which are expected to reach retail markets in mid-2019.

Prem Rajalingham, Chief Commercial Officer, Frontier Smart Technologies, said:

“With AutoDAB 3.0 we are offering customers a significantly enhanced automotive aftermarket software solution. This release will enable manufacturers to develop new products in time for the switch-off of FM in Switzerland. With important new features and exploiting the benefits of an integrated single chip solution, we believe this is a major step forward for manufacturers of automotive aftermarket DAB radios and adapters.”

Norway population 4.768m
Switzerland population 8.372m , 76% bigger than Norway so a much bigger DAB market?

Or is it even bigger? 9/10 Swiss people listen to the radio 1.5 hours a day. Jackpot

hxxps://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/tuning-in_most-swiss-listen-to-radio-every-day/43350834

3.67m weekly listeners in Norway 7/10 Norwegians then. Interestingly if you read the article below I imagine Norwegians are still buying their new DAB radios too given apparently the number of radios in households has halved post switchover

I think there are a couple of electronics shows coming up one in Berlin and one in HK or Taiwan from memory but it’s a major Asian annual show.

“Stronger thsn H1” well yeah otherwise we are screwed! Still gives them a get out to say yeah it’s not returning as fast as we expected !

They also said the next country for DAB - FM switch is Switzerland from memory in 2020-2024 ! Doesn’t bode well for H2 2018!

It’s newsflow on products that will get the share price moving I think. There was some snippet about a chip going into mass production. I just wish there were some tie ups anounced

Sonos sound bar is out in anew version with Alexa in it. So who’s won that business because it’s not FST unless I’ve missed something ? And those sonos sound bars are superb

The tie ups announced with speaker companies apart from one or two have been second rate producers and brands which I’m sure will sell in the developing world but I’m n of buying a memorex or Altec Lansing speaker with Alexa . I want B&O , Sonos, Sony, etc

Well this is what they say

Prospects

The Digital Radio business is expected to generate strong positive cashflows for the foreseeable future. In the second half of 2018, sales volumes are expected to return to more normalised patterns, i.e. a stronger performance than in H1-2018.

SCSW is out a week tomorrow. I was always of the opinion (judging by the published prices of the stocks when it comes out) that the majority of it is known the preceding Friday. Regardless of the next issue I’m just glad we are now at 70p and not at 44p. Also given I averaged down at 48p!

Sorry but £4.10 to 44p, 67p or 69p is no laughing matter. The 3 stooges on the 'independent' remuneration committee must be removed and replaced by rational people (preferably shareholders)who are genuinely interested in maximising shareholder value.

Mumbles Sethill and Johnny Appetites both have contracts paying them 6 months for termination. This must be changed to 1 month max. What, if anything, does JA contribute to earnings? He is a luxury we cannot afford and the fact that he only holds a few shares is disgraceful. Bye, bye Johnny is long overdue.

Institutional shareholders should force Sethill to justify his existence & produce monthly progress reports for sustained profitability and getting the share price back to £4.10+ asap. It would be nice if Patrick could simply replace the greedy, mumbling malignancy instead of slashing R&D.
