French Utility Engie to Report 'More Normalized' Q3 Results, Barclays Says

(MT Newswires) -- Engie (ENGI.PA) is expected to post results showing a "more normalized" performance in the third quarter following the lack of unforeseen items in its pre-release, Barclays analysts said in a Tuesday note.

Based on the pre-release, Engie saw slightly milder weather in the third quarter, with improved nuclear availability in Belgium and marginally better hydrogen volumes in France. Barclays believes that the "extraordinary high" EBIT at Engie's global energy management and sales, or GEMS, segment in the first half will not be repeated in the third quarter.

The research firm forecasts a third-quarter group EBIT including nuclear of 1.28 billion euros, lower than the previous two quarters amid the assumption that Engie's GEMS business will contribute a 250 million-euro EBIT. For the first nine months of 2023, Barclays estimates Engie's group EBIT excluding nuclear at 7.96 billion euros, benefiting from "good" organic growth rates in its renewables segment, flex gen and retail businesses.

Consequently, the analysts expect the French utility to reiterate its full-year guidance. Engie will publish its third-quarter report on Nov. 7.

Barclays maintained its equal-weight rating on the stock, with a price target of 18 euros.

Engie Expects to Spend Majority of EUR3 Billion Biomethane Production Expansion Budget on Deals

(MT Newswires) -- Engie (ENGI.PA) detailed allocation plans for the planned 3 billion-euro investment in biomethane production by 2030, Bloomberg News reported Thursday,

Camille Bonenfant-Jeanneney, the head of Engie's Renewable Gases Europe division, said two-thirds will go towards acquisitions, plant modernization and expansion, with the remaining earmarked for project developments.

The French utility has ongoing projects in the Netherlands, Germany and Italy, with plans to expand in France, the UK, and Spain, according to the report.

Company shares fell nearly 2% in late afternoon trading.

ENGIE snaps up AD plant firm

An Exeter-based operator of anaerobic digestion (AD) plants has been acquired by renewable energy firm ENGIE.

Ixora Energy operates three plants in the South West: Gorst Energy in Clyst St Mary, Condate Biogas in South Molton and Sustainable Energy Generation in Somerset.

It processes energy crops, agricultural waste and animal manures to produce biogas, which is used to generate renewable electricity or gas. This renewable energy is injected into the gas and electricity grid, serving thousands of homes local to each plant.

Chris Ward spoke to managing director Darren Stockley in the latest issue of South West Business Insider.


The deal adds three anaerobic digestion (AD) sites to ENGIE's portfolio as it aims to strengthen its presence in the UK by acquiring the firm from Downing.

Anne-Laure Chassanite of ENGIE said: "The acquisition of Ixora Ltd demonstrates ENGIE's belief in a diversified energy mix for a reliable and affordable energy transition. It also shows our commitment to help shape the UK and Europe’s path to decarbonisation.

"With our substantial investments and strategic focus on renewable gases, ENGIE is poised to support the UK's energy transition goals. We have a long-term vision to cultivate innovation and progress, while strongly supporting local communities."
