PJ,

E2V looks like it has a serious chance of becoming a Small Cap darling that turns into a Mid Cap star, a la OXIG. The tie up with Rio Tinto might have huge potential.

Chart wise the share has big resistance in the 140s:

Once it gets over c.170p the share could take a run to the old high of c.310p and go beyond if ProWave really rocks.

On the Ichimoku daily it is having a retrace to support:

On the Fibs, on two swings, it has done a 50% retracement and a 61.8% retracement, which pan out on the Ichimoku daily above:

The only factor that makes me slightly nervous is E2V's defence exposure, but rated 10x for 3/12 it has a cushion.

Good fortune.

The other side of the coin in partnering with Rio Tinto it seems...

E2V's prospects for a re-rating are tied up with mining and with China trying to avoid its own meltdown, mining is not a good place to be right now. Everything is down today for me however, not just E2V. I sold out some of these the day I saw a headline for 'S&P hits highest level since June 2008'. That's a sell signal for me. Sold some, kept some. I have no suggestion for you PJ1. I'm not that sort of investor. I'm not generally good at buying in and out. I'll hold for now, and see what comes out of the partnership and while a lovely extra, mining is only a relatively small part of E2V's revenue stream in any case (though with the potential for it to become very important depending on the outcome of its vermiculite (sp) trials.

==============================
Rio Tinto is also partnering with UK-based e2V to develop machines to improve the efficiency of mineral recovery from previously discarded ore. The machinery uses large-scale microwave and radio frequency generators and is expected to set a new world standard in mineral recovery.

The partnership will enable Rio Tinto to scale up its mineral recovery technologies such as Copper NuWave™, which is expected to be trialled later this year at Kennecott Utah Copper in the United States.

Mr McGagh said "We are developing machines that use digital and sensing technologies to detect and separate the mineral from rock waste so that we can improve rates of recovery from what is currently being treated as waste rock. This technology has the capability of being a potential game-changer in the mining industry.

"There is increasing minerals demand around the world - especially from emerging markets. As minerals become harder to mine, from deeper mines in more remote areas, it's innovation from modern science and technology that's the key to meeting this challenge

The Rio Tinto deal seems to refer to their vermiculite trials I assume. They seem to be pushing ahead much faster than Keith had suggested when I spoke with him at the AGM. Good to hear.

I wonder if E2V are going to be impacted by defence cuts? CHG warned again today and Cazenove has downgraded FY 2012 EPS by 15%.

I hope its the first possibility as well. Though even as I wrote that the market began to slide overall and has carried on through the morning. Even so E2V seems to have been hit harder and right off from market open which I felt somewhat unusual.

I think this is one of two things ahead of the results:

a) cautious investors taking money off the table after the rise in October "just in case" results are poorer than expected, or (and more worrying)
b) people in the know selling

I'm hoping it's the former.

The one worry is this statement from the update, and my concern is if the conditions have spread to other parts of the business:

"The broader macro economic environment remains of concern and there are some signs of softening demand."

If today's trading is anything to go by its not looking good. Isn't insider trading illegal by the way? It wouldn't seem to be based on how often share price reacts in advance of information releases and E2V is just the latest. Hope I am wrong but in an up market the share price today is down by nearly 7% well outside the usual movement ranges for this stock on a 'normal' day.

Any one know when e2v interims are due? I've got week beginning Nov 14th, but it's not on announcements I don't think.

Last year it was included on the period update.

Much appreciated

And it looks as if this growth is key to their strategy...

From results...

Achievement of growth strategy

The Group has undertaken a strategic review during the year. The strategy is focused on market expansion into sub-systems and solutions, with particular focus on six base applications and two growth applications (Semiconductor lifecycle management and Industrial processing systems) combined with geographic expansion in the Asian and North American markets. The Group's future growth and success depends upon the successful implementation of this strategy and its ability to gain traction in these markets. To be competitive in these areas the Group is investing in its research and development, manufacturing, marketing, customer service support and distribution networks in these areas.

Thought this was interesting from last results...

Good growth in revenue in all regions other than UK. If e2v can increase exposure in Asia Pacific at current growth rate then that'll be exciting.
