Specialist engineer Dowlais (DWL) has been dragged into a £450mn operating loss by a major goodwill impairment. The group – which was spun off from Melrose Industries (MRO) last year – has reported a £449mn impairment charge relating to its powder metallurgy division, following a review of its medium-term prospects. The group was further hampered by £120mn of restructuring costs in the automotive business.

Back into profit today.

I thought the fall was well overdone on a goodwill write down, and with a 2.8p dividend (ex-div a week tomorrow) Dowlais has a reasonable yield.

I think 150p might be a little optimistic, but a pound should be easily achievable in the relatively short term.

Well hopefully this will get aided by share by back starting next week and then onto ex divi day shortly afterwards in mid April.

A nice divi, impending share buyback and large director buys and the potential disposal of an underperforming asset....and the S/P continues to drop....what am I missing?

From IC last week...DWL has reported a £449mn impairment charge relating to its powder metallurgy division, following a review of its medium-term prospects.
Is this a major worry? Views?

Annual dividend and proposed buyback at the current share price offers an annual 9.16% return.

Don't see that as a negative short term. OEM's will move mix to ICE. Still DWL driveshafts. Longer term if EV doesn't pick up then future contract might not materialise at desired levels. Should point out no such thing as an electric engine haha
