11/11/2010 20:47 | Pizza, Pasta and Italian Food Industry 2010 Award Winners Announced 2010-11-11 November 11, 2010 - Press Dispensary - The quality standards among Britain's top independent Italian and pizza restaurants is getting better and better, according to the judges of this year's annual Pizza Pasta & Italian Food Industry Awards, with no fewer than 11 getting Gold Awards and two Platinums. Scotland also features strongly in this year's awards, almost half the independent winners coming from either Edinburgh or Glasgow with the overall Pizza Chef of the Year award going to Darren Smith from the Battlefield Restaurant in Glasgow. Nationally Pizza Hut and Domino's Pizza took the awards for national pizza restaurant and delivery chair, respectively, while Asda took top spot in the multiple chilled retailer category with the Co-op winning the convenience store category in the same section. Frozen pizza retailer was Iceland, while Morrisons took the award as pasta retailer of the year with the Co-op again taking the convenience category. The Co-op also won the frozen pizza convenience store section. Wirral-based AKS Partners, a family-run firm, opened its seventh Domino's Pizza branch in Chester Street earlier this year after securing financial backing from NatWest. The bank provided a loan to help AKS buy the property and equip the store. The opening of the new store has resulted in 39 jobs being created and AKS now employs 264 staff across its branches. Dr Talib Al Kadhimi, of AKS Partners, said: "We are keen to grow our franchise business by opening new stores in good retail locations across Merseyside, Cheshire and the Wirral. "We look forward to welcoming both new and existing customers to Saltney." John Fillingham, relationship manager at NatWest in Liverpool, said: "For many years AKS has demonstrated how to run a successful franchise business. "We are happy to support their expansion plans and look forward to helping them open future stores." 05/11/2010 13:07 | PR machine crackling along :-) 'Streetwise Soccer scores support from Domino`s Pizza Bolton' Budding footballers in Bolton received an added boost at Friday's StreetWise Soccer event, thanks to sponsorship from Domino's Pizza. Domino's sponsored the youth football event, which took place at Bolton Town Hall on Friday [October 29, 2010]. Kicking off at 10am, the StreetWise Soccer day saw freestyle footballers from across the UK showing off their skills in a freestyle competition. In addition, local youngsters tried their hands (and feet!) at a match in the Streetwise Soccer Panna Cage, as well as picking up hints and tips from workshops taking place throughout the day. The budding footballers also competed in a skills competition the StreetWise Soccer freestyle football showdown which was won by Connor McCarthy.
