20/10/2011 22:21 | MARKET REPORT: Bears tuck into Dominos Pizza Hungry bears sank their teeth into Domino's Pizza amid rumours that a sizeable share placing could be on the menu. The home delivery pizza company lost 6p to 451p as dealers heard late gossip that it wants to raise some cash to help fund expansion in Germany where four new shops are planned by the end of this year, taking the total to six. It remains on track to open 60 stores in the UK. New site openings have always remained an attractive proposition for its bankers but in the current environment of restricted lending, dealers suggest Domino's could now be turning to its 'friends' in the City for additional financial support. There was a suggestion too that the board requires monies to fund a property acquisition. Domino's last month reported weaker-than-expected third-quarter figures, with like-for-like sales of 3.9 per cent falling short of expectations in some quarters of 5 per cent-plus. That was a disappointing performance considering that during this period it had introduced 'Stuffed Crust' and the new Gourmet range which is geared towards enticing a new customer base. Chief executive Chris Moore stands down on Christmas Day to be replaced by Lance Batchelor who was a non-executive member of the board. Moore owns a 1.51 per cent stake and could be looking to unload some stock into the market. Panmure Gordon retained its sell recommendation and target price of 350p, saying it had increased its forecasts less than 1 per cent over the last 12 months, but the shares had risen 8 per cent. For a stock to grow earnings 13 per cent this year, it looks too expensive. The year's high was 591p. | philanderer | |
