26/5/2016 10:33 | lol well I was slightly more polite but not going to disagree ) DGE is worth consideration following a few world are ending sentiment days for markets as it tends to get sold off sharply and rebound quickly. | essentialinvestor
25/5/2016 17:26 | Here is the top fifty in the USA, plenty to choose from, there's more breweries in the USA now than there has ever been, similar growth in the UK. Can't remember the last time I seen a 'Harp' pump on the bar. Guinness stout has done better but there has been considerable change in the last five years with consumers picking up craft ales in pubs and supermarkets. This maybe just another consumer fashion, we will know for sure in about twenty years time. | spacecake
25/5/2016 14:04 | Guinness have tried to capitalise on this with some of their recent launches, multiple new products. I do not see an acquisition as necessary, DGE's record in that dept is dreadful. Fullers 1845 for me, very nice. | essentialinvestor
25/5/2016 13:44 | Yes I bought when it was called Allied Breweries and then it became Guinness so add that up and its a long time ago. So what have you in mind for a "global craft" brewery for DGE to acquire? | anley
25/5/2016 11:52 | "The problem as I see it and as an ex-brewer is that growth today in and around the world is becoming more and more difficult." Maybe they could overcome some of this with the purchase of a fast growing global craft beer brand ! | spacecake
25/5/2016 09:38 | anley, have you bought yet ? )) | essentialinvestor
25/5/2016 09:36 | You must be joking............to buy a "craft" beer business and for that to impact on the P/L account is not a consideration. Think about it for a moment.............. | anley
24/5/2016 18:52 | I wonder would DGE consider entering craft beer with a bid for a global fast grower ? | spacecake
24/5/2016 15:00 | Nice day, thought 1850 was doable but we breezed past that. space, earnings over the last 3 years stagnant, explains it imv, there are hopefully some better times ahead, although I never underestimate DGE capacity to disappoint!. | essentialinvestor
24/5/2016 13:49 | That 200 day average seems to have gone nowhere in three years, share price bobbing around in the 1700p to 2000p range for years. | spacecake

19/5/2016 10:44 | anley, the PE is high, fully agree with that. ZIRP and now negative rates are behind a degree of that valuation. The flip side is the value of DGE's brands and global presence. The Company has significantly underperformed on a multi year basis, some of the factors underlying this have been outside of their control, others self made. Either the CEO delivers over the next few months showing signs of renewed growth traction, or he is out. | essentialinvestor
19/5/2016 10:12 | The problem as I see it and as an ex-brewer is that growth today in and around the world is becoming more and more difficult. For Diageo its a huge tanker and at the moment it has not finished turning which I think will take another year or more. However, markets anticipate events and at the moment we have a slight change in management resulting in a change of direction as these people get their feet under the table. I also think the PE is high and I do see the yield increasing slowly to around 4% which takes in the world wide problems that this company has at the moment. In the meantime there is no way Diageo becomes a take-over target by the bandits from Brazil as all of them have enough on their plate for the next year in sorting out and selling beer businesses.......... I am a buyer but am waiting for the markets to pull back taking in to account the massive problems China has. Also smart money is being pulled out of hedge funds and the markets and to help me I am looking at ETF's to help me - London is no good but there are some inverse ones such as S&P that will hedge my portfolio. Hope this helps............ | anley
19/5/2016 08:14 | anley, it will take a lot to get down near £17 again, mentioned at the time that looked a great price. Added a few, slowly slowly catch a ... hopefully not a cold ) Markets looking ill so may be a few opportunities is this continues. | essentialinvestor |
