Sorry to hear of your troubles royce. I'm trying to keep away from the screens as much as possible for just these health related issues and have just given up smoking. But I do need more exercise, though as you note, in itself that may not be enough.

Looking forward to your roar being fully restored in due course.

All the best

Royce, very sorry to hear of your exerience but pleased you are on road to recovey.
Unfortunately I have always had tendency to work long hours and always focus on task in hand to exclusion of all else. Reached a crisis 12 years ago when I was more than 3 stone overweight and 3 of my colleagues went down with heart attacks in 1 month. Lost the weight, took up runnin and have a more balanced life.
Recently joined the local Fitness First Gym and was quite amazed at the change in technolgy and atmosphere since my school days when all you got were wall bars and bar bells. Most important though is that the trainers who work there treat fitness as a science and have programmes to cater for all levels of physic and motivation.

Slightly off thread. In the words of John McEnroe: " You cannot be serious"? I don't know of anyone that looks at the mouse while working.
I think I would learn to use another 'digit' before paying that #:-))
Cheers.

Royce,

Glad to see you are on the mend from a very shocking experience. You are definitely missed on the traders thread and also at the C'mas dinner on Friday. Have a relaxing (but exercisingly strenuous :-)) C'mas and make sure you fully recover your strength ready to growl a bit in the New Year.

Regards

royce - what a shocking tale. I wish you a full and speedy recovery. I am so glad that you posted and that I read the thread, cos I sit for hours virtually immobile in front of the screen. I'll certainly take steps to avoid the situation.

Best wishes

Royce.

Very pleased at near 100% recovery. Walking they say is the best exercise.
May I suggest a Jack Russell ? Small, intelligent, lively and always ready to go walkies. Would not be without our PIP. And I have Emphysema that slowed me down considerably. Good luck.

Sorry to hear of your problems, hope everything goes better now. The aspirin mentioned by limousine is a good idea, but vitamin E is good too and more suitable for those who might have stomach or ulcer problems. You can take up to 1000 iu per day, but need to check with your doctor first if you have high BP.

You don't need to do vigorous exercise to avoid clots, just be sure to move around a bit. Get four cats, you'll find you won't get sitting peacefully in front of your computer too long. You have to get up to let them in through the window, referee the fights in the garden, rescue the injured birds, hoover constantly to get rid of the hairs. You also get regular blood-letting, especially when sorting out the fighting, which may be a preventative measure in itself. :-)

Royce,

Wondered where you were yesterday, very sorry to hear of your travails but pleased to hear you're on the mend. I hope you do recover fully and quickly..

All the best mate - I find the only exercise I get during the day is rushing to pee/grab a sandwich & deposit most of it on my keyboard. But I do try to exercise every evening, & I think it's essential.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with us, pleased to hear that you are recovering well.
I have a few things to add, which I hope may be of use to others.
I too have suffered with poor circulation in my legs and have had three operations for varicose veins in the last 15 years. Poor circulation is often hereditary and due to defective valves in the veins which allow blood to flow back down into the legs. Over a period of time this causes the wall of the veins to extend producing swelling, and what is known as varicose veins. The effects of varicose veins are often only mild, they can be itchy or produce feelings of heavy or tired legs. Sometimes however they can develop into much more serious conditions such as DVT, which unfortunately royce you have suffered from.
To reduce the chances of developing either varicose veins or DVT it is important to try and maintain good venous blood flow. The worst thing you can do is stand stationary for long periods of time, as the calf muscles which act as a pump are not helping return blood to the heart and the blood can easily drain into the legs. Try and avoid sitting for long periods too, if this is not possible, then try and alleviate the situation by:
1. Exercising the legs every hour or so. Try running up and down the stairs or walking briskly around the house, this will get the calf muscles working and get the venous blood flow going.
2. When seated try and raise the legs by putting your feet up on a stool or pouffe etc. This lowers the blood pressure in the lower leg and makes it easier for the blood to flow back to the heart.)
3. Get yourself a good quality, ergonomically designed chair.I can recommend these;

There not cheap, but if you're swing or day trading you spend at lot of time seated and you can't perform at your best if your uncomfortable.
4. As already mentioned above, a regular exercise program is essential if you have a sedentry lifestyle. Sign up at the local gym, cycle or walk briskly, healthy body, healthy mind etc.
Stay healthy and tradesmart!
