Certainly doesn't take much to move this, mm's can't have any stock and don't have any sellers at this level.

Surprisingly little interest here and it is mildly annoying. What is there not to like, indeed.

Hopefully the second leg up on the chart has just begun. Trading is very slow and should start to improve as the share price rises. The move could be to between 50p and 80p - at 80p the PE ratio would be 5.
If a second dividend is declared or a favourable decision on the US$100 million owed to the Belize Bank by the Government of the country: Then that changes the ball game all together.
Like all chart moves they can falter.

Thanks Simon, yes another dividend like the last one and capital growth, that's the holy grail of investing.

montyhedge,

What is perhaps even more interesting is that not merely is the PE of the order of 2.0 but that it is capable of going lower at the current price of 35p. The basic business is indeed very basic - you know, car loans, credit cards - and it is hard to see this deteriorating.

Further, there are improvements yet to come through internet banking.

An 11p dividend gives a yield basis of 33% (say). What is not to like?

P.e 2.11 on my calculation. Seems room for shareprice to move higher, if they pay another dividend like the last one that would be an incredible yield.

montyhedge,

If indeed another dividend pops up in, say, eight months time, 50p will be readily surpassed. I guess (and my guess is based on what the Government of Belize might do and when) that 50p is reasonable for now. After all, GoB really cannot do something silly again and therefore probably will not.

If they pay another dividend of 7c then 50p a given in my opinion.

ontyhedge,

I understand that the Belize Bank is trading very well. Therefore I hope we get another dividend this year. The proper price is 50p right now and I reckon that a bid follows late this year or possibly early next.

Looks as if there is a delayed buy trade in there this morning to lift the share price. CIHL should move to over 33p in the very short term as the Belize Government, or Parliament, may well make an arranged offer to The Belize Bank.

The offer may well be a staged arrangement with the 3.5% interest paid, in accordance with the UK Arbitration decision. That would include interest going back to 2004 paid over several years. The Bank may well then not press for repayment of any of that outstanding loan - IMHO.

Belize Bank to Appeal CJ’s Ruling on UHS Debt
February 7 2020

Attorney for the Belize Bank Limited, Senior Counsel Eamon Courtenay this evening filed an application for leave to appeal a ruling made last month by Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin in favour of the Government of Belize on a U.H.S. debt that has now ballooned to over a hundred million dollars with interest included.

It all dates back to a debt that originated from 2004 and has gone before a number of processes.
But this application stems from a vote, which the government took in February 2019; that it would not use public monies to pay the growing debt, a decision which the CJ upheld in his January tenth ruling.

When News Five last spoke to Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte on the matter, he said in essence that the Ministry of Finance is not in breach of any law or duty to pay the monies owed because the parliament has not voted for that, hence the Minister of Finance cannot be compelled to pay.

The matter has gone through many legal battles prior to this, and at one point, the London Court of International Arbitration had ruled that the Belize Bank is entitled to its money.

The Belize Chamber of Commerce had also at one time implored the government to follow the rule of law and to pay the debt..
