I believe the company itself can influence the number of MMs ie it can pay MMs to make a market in its shares.
MMs make money on the turn ie the difference between the buy and sell price. It matters not a jot to them whether the company is profit or loss making. They are only interested in lots of buyers and lots of sellers.

Exactly Orange1 - expectation of profit for the MM and not the company. That is what I meant. Today's turnover was a big fat zero. No turnover = no profit, so why the MM interest?
I don't think that companies paying MMs to make a market in their shares is true. I certainly don't see COO spending money to do this either. One company I had shares in (a property investment trust) was desperate to encourage more MMs - it only had two - but they just weren't interested. As a result, the shares were illiquid. I learned a big lesson never to buy shares in a company with just two MMs.

Do I detect the slightest hint of banter????? lol

This is just pure and simples....off the radar.

I honestly believe it has a hell of alot going for it, and this is as good a time to get in and hold for min' of 12 months, though 2-3 years should see a multibagger imho. I've tried to find negatives but can't find any companywise ;) if ya know what I mean.
There is, I believe less than 15% in free float, and not gazilions to start with like most on aim(55.5m).
So within 2 week we will know pretty much what we have here and what we can look forward to.

Cool

Not a clue. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason involved - none that I can detect anyway. Some stocks which are much more actively traded and with a far larger market cap have fewer MMS. I can only assume that the decision must be based on expectation of profit, but I'm blowed if I can see that here.

My Lord or anybody...
What or who determines the decision of a market maker to cover a share? Should this be taken as a positive sign?

Interesting to note that today we now have four market makers in COO. Previously we have had three MMs. What it may mean I haven't a clue, but at least somebody is taking interest.
Lord Gnome - 24 Feb'11 - 08:47 - 275 of 308 edit
And today, I note that we now have five (yes five) market makers in COO. Nice to see more interest. Perhaps the market is expecting a bit of action - I guess we can hope!

And now there are six!! Currently 2v2 on L2. We've managed to absorb a few small sells today without the share price dropping. On a day like today, that's saying something.

Hallmark signs Purple Ronnie contract extension

Coolabi plc (AIM:COO), the media company focused on the ownership and creative management of high quality intellectual property assets, announces that it has secured a four-year extension to its contract with Hallmark, the UK's leading greetings cards company, for use of the Purple Ronnie brand.

Hallmark has sold more than 50 million Purple Ronnie cards in total since becoming the greetings card licensee in 2004 and currently sells in excess of 7 million Purple Ronnie cards annually. The licence covers not only greetings cards but also Hallmark's online personalised card service.

Jeremy Banks, Chief Executive of Coolabi, said: "We are delighted to extend our agreement with Hallmark, which has played an important role in driving the popularity of Purple Ronnie through the UK greetings card market in recent years. People of all ages have been expressing themselves with Purple Ronnie for more than 20 years and, as demonstrated by this contract extension, the brand remains as relevant today in the key category of greetings cards, as it ever has."
