14.25g/t gold over 0.5m at Inishowen
-- Assay results from the latest phase of drilling at Inishowen include: Au hole from to width ppm ---------- ----- ----- ------ ------ 17-MR-08 21.5 22.0 0.5 14.25 ---------- ----- ----- ------ ------ 17-MR-09 42.6 43.6 1.0 0.35 ---------- ----- ----- ------ ------ 17-MR-11 5.9 6.4 0.5 0.43 ---------- ----- ----- ------ ------ -- This has improved Connemara's understanding of the geometry of the mineralised zone -- Prospecting has also identified gold occurrence 500m from drilling area
Connemara (AIM: CON) is pleased announce assay results from its 100%-owned Inishowen Gold Project, located in Donegal, Ireland. A five hole drill programme was conducted in October at the Meeneragh gold target in the southeast of the project to better understand the gold bearing veins orientation and grade.
Hole 17-MR-08 intercepted gold mineralisation from 21.5m grading at 14.25g/t gold over 0.5m and confirms that the vein is steeply dipping. Hole 17-MR-09 returned 1m at 0.35g/t gold associated with a 20cm quartz vein from 42.6m confirming the continuity of the vein along strike. Hole 17-MR-11 intercepted a new vein 100m south with 0.43g/t gold over 0.5m from 5.9m. No significant mineralisation was intercepted in the other holes.
John Teeling, Chairman, commented "we are pleased to provide positive results for our Inishowen Gold Project. We are encouraged by the high-grade in Hole 17-MR-08 and pleased to find further mineralisation 50 metres along trend from the high-grade zone identified in earlier drilling. The prospecting has located gold in bedrock in the vicinity of Meeneragh which returned 0.14g/t Au. This gives scope for the discovery of further mineralisation in the wider area."
The confirmation of orientation and grade of veins including the discovery of a new vein to the south has enabled Connemara geologists to define a new wider exploration programme around the target. Follow up work will include further interpretation of existing geophysical data and newly processed data from the Tellus airborne geophysical survey, which will be available in February 2018. This is expected to assist in better defining the regional fault structures (especially the Glentogher Fault associated with the Meeneragh target).
500 metres away to the northeast of the drilling location an outcrop of faulted Green Bed returned 0.14g/t gold. The discovery of gold in the Green Bed Member supports our expectation that the source of gold is associated with the Green Bed rock type and we believe follow up work should be concentrated over its entire 15km strike length. Prospecting and mapping will continue over the Inishowen target areas to locate the source of high-grade gold found in historic stream sediment samples.
