taylor20,

The guys over at Folding @ Home are getting pretty excited about the Clearspeed processor, ...who are they??!! Sorry, if I am having a blond moment, but I don't recognize them!...

I expect cards will be available to sector/country leaders who have already engaged with them...:-)

The guys over at Folding @ Home are getting pretty excited about the Clearspeed processor, I suspect Dr Vijay Pande will get an early view of the new CSX600 card.

This was recently posted:

"Dear Jason,

Thank you for your interest in ClearSpeed. We're still a few months away from having the CSX600 cards available. Regarding pricing, please keep in contact with Dr. Pande.

Best Regards,

I bet you those were two (100,000) directors sells circa 15.00pm to balance the books, now that I bought 2000 shares at todays high 15.36pm. Well you cannot win them all.
Interesting to see, they marked them up 2p directly after my trade. The RSI is approaching 100%, therefore a retraction on the chart/share price is due, hopefully, then I can get some more.

every day a shake during the rise followed by a quick bounce to a new high. also 2 x 100k buys. definitely not smoke without fire this, just intrigued to know if news has leaked or whether a major player is building a stake.

looking at the recent rises and the daily intraday charts, it looks to me like the mm's are struggling to keep hold. i suspect they have a buy order and we have seen some delayed buys most days. the buys visible dont vindicate the rises until later in the day when the delayed buys show up. it looks like our buyer is still here.

Sitting on the sidelines watching this rise is pretty frustrating!

Well done to all still holding, Market Cap now 83million.

someones obviously accumulating these in the last few days. we have had an mm buy and 2 x 25k buys this morning, add in the other large purchases and it bodes well with the stake being bought at all time high prices.

Tradx666,

Agreed. Would be much better if they could go it alone. If the chip is that good though ... well who wouldn't be interested in buying them out.

Tone,

a bit...I am led to believe that sample test products will become available to a small number of integrators etc around April/May time, and that the full product launch will be in the Sept/Oct timeframe..as I expected probable early wins will be the in the HPC space as with some applications here we are talking about are showing a 10X improvement in performance! If they come in at my expectation of around £1500-2500 per Dual Proc add-in card, then they will have a ready, willing and growing marketplace imho...assuming of course that they don't get bought before then....which whilst far-fetched perhaps wouldn't surprise me in the slightest..

Trad,

Happy new year and hope you are well. Still following the EPO saga, although it's in need of a new storyline. The old one is getting a bit tired!

This one is still on the watchlist and of interest. I see a 83k buy just posted. Do you have any gossip?

Simon Gordon--> nice post! Patricks not the only institutional investor in this stock, it has very heavy institutional backing with little stock in free flow, any news imo would propel the stock forward very fast imo.... 75% tightly held by directors and with many major instutions adding to their positions in 2004..

Fidelity - 4%
New Star - 3%
Merrill Lynch - 1%
Apax Partners - 1%
Invesco - 1%
Jupiter - 1%

I also note that David Sebire holds 10,000 units. He's the chairman of ARX ;-)

Samlped from the web:

Patrick Evershed, manager of the New Star Select Opportunities Fund

FTSE: 4400 (4300 for 2004). I am excited about the prospects for my own fund because there are more good new issues coming into the market than at any other time during my 35 years in the City. I am nevertheless concerned about the state of the economy. Economic growth in recent years has been fuelled by rising personal debt, government debt which is rising far faster than Gordon Brown's original expectations and by a large trade deficit. These trends are unsustainable.

Top share: Clearspeed Technology. This company has developed a high performance parallel processing chip that has more computing power than other chips and uses less power. It is hoped that the chip will go in to commercial production during 2005.

At this stage Clearspeed is still a risky investment but it has a huge potential, which makes the risk worthwhile.

Top sector: Technology. Because I fear the economy is going to slow next year I am looking for companies that should grow because they have new products for which there should be a strong growing demand. The Tech Sector is still depressed after its very sharp fall in 2000 and 2001. I sold out of the Sector in late 1999 and early 2000, but I have been investing in it again over the last 18 months.

Top country: The Asia Pacific area is competitive and growing rapidly. In contrast the Euro is not competitive and it is becoming less competitive. (We are lucky Tony Blair has so far failed to get us in to it.)

Good luck to you. If you are interested in semi-conductor 'Jam-Tomorrows', you might want to take a look at INN. Current MktCap is about £40m and the next 6months could show the start of a good deal of +ve business activity... DYOR

supernumeracy,

I remember the Transputer well - :-)

Katylied,

They are unquestionably highly speculative, but they are primarily aimed at one key core niche market where TPC/speed is almost everything i.e. applications that can/make use of HPC..the are a number of key vertical sectors where the demand for greater performance is almost insatiable..and the scale out approach is far more effective than the scale up approach or the big tin approach, this niche market in 2010 is expect to be worth in excess of $25 billion per year (According to Gartner)...and is steadily heading in this direction...

So, don't hold your breath, but IF they do make it, then it will be a pretty spectacular ride from here...personally I give them no more than a 1:25 chance of pulling it off...

Also my take on the situation. Could do well, but
a UK company has been here before, and didn't.
Still, trade the hype by all means, but don't
hold your breath waiting for the jam...

Anybody remember the Inmos Transputer? Worth reading

It shows two things
- Clearspeed aren't the first to take this route
- it takes more than technical brilliance to make money

Watching with interest...

..and they know that many designs will fail to make it. Far better to let all these ambitious little triers fight it out, and let the losers go bust along the way, rather than carry the failures in-house?

oligoad,

IBM are mass market focused and are also tied to the PowerPC processor, also whilst debatable, it is extremely unlikely that they could attract and keep such a small well motivated team who have taken the design approach that is taken here. IBM are a typical huge giant where you go to make your early mark and then get out as fast as you can!!

Dell are 'just' a platform integrator/marketeer (they have neither the capacity nor the capability to create such a product).

It is also useful for you to ask why Intel/AMD and other semi-conductor companies have not followed their design route..in simple terms the market size for this niche is not yet big enough for them to be overly concerned...but it will be and they will be...and they will be bought imho..

oligoad,

I expect 'adoption/integration' news with key OEM's in early-mid '05, with 'production platform' roll-out in 2006...

I suspect that they will focus early efforts on the key THPC players..starting with the Tier 1's i.e. Cray,IBM,Sun,Dell etc...so if they are on track, I woudl expect some collaboration/JV news ...and I would also expect some Defence win/assesment news from some of the US aeronautical firms..

Any of which, would literally confirm their technology lead and set this share alight...imho
