Life expectancy goes biblical

Published: 07:00 Wednesday 15 February 2006 TOTAL PAGES: 1
By: Gavin Lumsden, Editor in Chief citywire.

The first person to live to 1,000 – that's 50 years older than Noah reached in the Bible – could be alive today.

That's the astonishing claim contained in a new report from Demos, the independent think tank, on the implications new technologies have on human capabilities and life expectancy.

'Better Humans? The politics of enhancement and life extension' suggests that babies born in 30 years' time may have an average life expectancy of 150. It says more than a million people in their 30s today could live to be 100.

Paul Miller, co-editor of the report, said gene therapy, nanotechnology and cybernetics could have profound consequences for education, healthcare and ageing.

Diog, we will have to agree to differ on the one you refer to, nothing personal. SC I use numerous brokers.

Always a pleasure talking to you too, hedge (except when you are deramping one of my stocks). :-)

HLO - haven't got round to it yet. Research is long, life is short. :-(

ID, yes they are on a very low rating, but I cant see at the moment what the Outer is for a re-rating of the SP, although I am an holder.(and as yesterday a promoter)

Here with Claimar the cash pile will mean going for growth with acquisitions and I can see the P/E multiple fall on the back of this and a rating well lower than the average in the sector making it a BUY.

I can see why some think this is a boring low growth sector, but the truth is far from that when you check out the high P/Es in this sub sector. Also take into consideration the fees charged in Homes of £430 per week and you can see why a lot of business people are making very large fortunes for themselves.

Social Services/Local Authoritys/ NHS see care at home as the alternative at a lower cost and busineses like Claimar are winning more contracts. Increased legislation within the industry also means the smaller outfits are having to meet higher staff training costs and if they are not up to scratch they will face severe penaltys
