I think it is different now. The family received a shed load of AGK shares when they separated, and with AGK now over £5 I guess theyhave plenty of cash tied up in the markets and may be keen to salvage something from SVC while they can.

Alternatively they may keep their shares but allow someone else to take a controling interest.

Approaches from two parties.

svc has been in this position before and the talks came to nothing. The family own a lot of the shares and it would appear that they have not been overkeen to sell in the past.

This is well up today - any rumours or just folks buying for the dividend?

Thanks for your reply. Bearing in mind that svc took on a new ceo approx 1 year ago was the intention that he would grow the company or prepare it for sale. I think that growth will be difficult there do not appear to be any moves in this direction. Diversification/growth through purchase - have they got the 'clout' to raise the money, management time or skills?

If there is to be a sale of svc it is to be hoped that there is more than one propective buyer in the hope that a better price will be obtained.

bracke, there has been bid talk over SVC for many years now and you're right about the family share ownership but in order to survive and prosper they will have to either buy, diversify or be bought soon, as I can't see how they can survive in their present state.

The largest groups have a wider business base and are not just confined to Logistics alone like SVC. Wincanton for example are acquiring such as Lane Group with their 2 man operation, TNT have disposed of their logistics arm to expand their post and parcels side, predominantly because there are too many squeezing the pure logistics rates. With the foreign hauliers adding to the problem companies like SVC will continue to have profits squeezed.

Don't see anybody taking them out at current levels though, why would they? but certainly as the price falls they may come into play. Definately a sell to me right now.

One interesting play for this sector though would be UPS to buy TNT now they're divested of their logistics arm. UPS 70% US turnover might need something in Europe and the far east in case of a down turn in the states.

Topped up just before the recent drop, just in the blue now but as it is in an ISA will get the dividend at only 10% tax. It looks as if the shares are beginning to move in the right direction - directors buys probably helped.

I bought on the 28th March, at 62.85p.
Hoping that once the results are out, the divi maintained, and reassuringly promising (though cautious) sentiments expressed, I'll be out of the red.

looks like SVC is weathering the storm nicely with the yield underpinning the price. Missed topping up though when it momentarily dropped.

Reported in The Times today: Arbuthnot Securities moved from "Neutral" to "Buy" citing assurances that the total dividend of 3.65p will be maintained at next month's prelims.

I see that Exel has started to climb again, currently up 18p. Are we being 'dragged' up by the influence of the possible takeover of Exel, ie market consolidation, or are we going up because of a general improvement in market sentiment of SVC

I see that Stocktrade will sell you online a max of 500 shares at 65p, ie full price but are prepared to buy off you 25000 shares at 63.1p, a little premium to get your shares! .

Stocktrade now offering to buy 25000 shares at 64.27p and not the indicated 63p. Something must be about to break.
