I also own IPU, and around 30 inv trusts, so no need to switch. I also get my timings wrong with selling. I think this has further to go, the uk is about to restart. I'll prob pay put divs soon anyway.

Sold SDV at 209.15p a 2% Premium to nav and brought IPU at 529.7p on 14.3% discount to nav.

I’ve sold a few this morning as the discount to NAV is nil. There are a few other trusts I’m looking at that have a wider than normal discount so may switch in them. Hopefully my timing is wrong and these will continue to climb.

NAV up 15.9% to 205.87p in last 2 months.

Q3 interim dividend up 4.17% to 2.5p, Ex Div 1st April. Fuelled by companies in the portfolio reinstating or increasing 2020 final dividends.

I bought in 2018, awful timing, and averaged down a lot since! I'm just going to stick with it, small caps still going to do well this year. I have around 30 inv trusts, too many to track!

3/4 of my largest individual holdings are Standard life smaller cos, Marlborough microcap and here (4th is AV). Generally this has lagged the other two but has been a star performer over the last 6 months with standard life being the laggard. SL did say that their portfolio will underperform during a recovery phase and that is what happened. Unfortunately I just sat on my hands as always.

I do notice how everyone does on the NFDS thread. This year my ISA would be top of the list so far, but my SIPP would be near bottom. On average I'm average.

Nice to see these coming back.

I've just checked my holding.

Bought in 2011 - +90% in dividends and +100% in value - oh that they were all like that!

CHC15, only sold part of my SDV holding. Added to AEWU at 81.6p yielding 9.8% with better dividend cover, lower gearing below 20% with interest rate on debt below 1.5%, compared to 4% on SDV zero. Also brought KKVL at 18.36p on near 50% discount to NAV of 36p.

Yield shares and small caps are outperforming a little in 2021 so far. UKX was up 6.4% at the weekend while HIX was up 9.3% and SMX was up 8.2%. Small caps have outperformed massively since June. I presume survivors amongst listed chains are seeing lots of independent competition shut down so maybe benefitting from both higher turnover and higher margin as things reopen?

These have been on a great run recently, may look to sell some myself at some point. My average here is about 170 (in reality somewhat lower with dividends). They have benefited from the rotation into value stocks that are more mature dividend payers and have probably suffered more from covid.

I regret not buying more around the 100p mark, but this time last year I thought several of their holdings would go under.

Hi TREWSA, agree can be very
confusing. Just bear in mind buy-sell Indicators are simple maths, based on midpoint between buy/offer and bid/sell prices. Below mid shows sell, exact mid shows ? and above mid buy. Sometimes your broker will beat the mid-price, especially on wide spreads. This morning, with the spread showing 187-193p, I sold 2500 shares at 190.6p and ADVFN shows my sell as buv, as over 190p mid price.

SDV publish daily RNs detailing NAVs based on the previous closing sell prices. Just click on the news tab on this site.

NAV 201.16p 9th March close.

Added today at 183.59p, following further portfolio gains this morning.

A few years ago when the NAV was also above 200p, sold out at a Premium to NAV. Scope for a double whammy of increasing portfolio gains and evaporating discount to NAV.

This has performed better over the last few months than standard life smaller cos which is unusual as that has generally been better over just about any time frame. It seems that the more mature dividend paying stocks are coming back into fashion as the uk reopens. Decent hold for me

NAV up again to 197.14p 3rd March close.

Added today at 177.9p, when several of SDV's portfolio were rising again. Eg. VTY up over 6% at one point, following final results this morning, including reinstated dividend.

NAV ticking up nicely to 186.89p. We can buy at 178.8p, 4.3% below NAV. Expect they will maintain 2.5p quarterly divs for the next 18 months, giving 5.6% annual yield.

Zero chance of a special div this year, as 1st and 2nd interims were only 56% covered. More likely to trim the core div, from next financial year.

NAV keeps ticking higher ... latest 184.63p.

Link :

At 169.5 offered implies a discount of 8.2% with a yield of 5.9% as 10p dividends forecast for this year. I also think we may get a special dividend this year as one has been paid in the last 4 out of 5 years ... the exception being 2020.

Why 2021 could be the year of small caps
23 December 2020

Smaller companies funds tend to lead the market during periods of recovery – but they are not for the faint-hearted.

2021 could be a year of powerful performance from small-cap funds – if the recovery from previous down years for the market is anything to go by.

Data from FE Analytics shows small-cap funds and sectors have dominated the top of performance tables every calendar year preceded by one in which the MSCI World index ended in negative territory.

Although the index looks set to end 2020 in positive territory – it is up 13.31 per cent in the year to date – many markets, particularly those without a heavy weighting to tech, such as the UK, are still well down on their starting values.

If, as expected, 2021 is characterised by a period of recovery, history suggests this would play into the hands of small-cap funds ...
