Discount edging back towards the high 20s so time to add some more I think. With 10% cash and a quality focus this should be pretty resilient in a downturn.

Discount had started to get a bit tight (at least versus where it normally trades) so perhaps just a reset back to the typical (but unjustified) 25% level. In the past I used to trade in and out of these as the discount moved, but can't be bothered now and just hold - it's a quality trust and would probably only sell if the discount got close to 10%.

Quite a surprise to see a rise like that, but it was far too undervalued and a quick snap back is welcomed.

Agreed…and despite the increase in share price over the past couple of weeks it’s still on a ridiculous discount (over 25%)…..Unbelievable!!!

Qs99 definitely a great place to park money. Even with market volatility we have a massive discount as a safety net.

30%+ discount to NAV...looks odd given revaluations at end of September on both quoted and unquoted. Maybe time to use some of that cash to buy shares off the market if any overhang? DYOR

Ridiculous to say this would be realised for less than the share price. It's on a 35% discount and holds around 10% in cash and 30% in public equities, which would be realised very close to NAV. That means the 60% held in private companies and funds would need to be sold for 60% below holding value. Given CLDN are always prudent in their valuations and usually realise at significant uplift, and given that most of the companies are performing well, this is clearly a nonsensical statement. Another one for the filter button.

Arja, that is unfounded nonsense. If you look at when assets have been sold they have sold for above book value. It's rare something is sold that comes up less than book.
Valuations at cldn seem to be conservatively done in my opinion and they have stood the test of time.
This is no short term player.

I'll take the other side of that. Quality trust.

shows how misleading the NAV figure is and I wonder how they calculate it ! I bet shareholders would get much less tan current share price if the Trust was liquidated :)

7im is a great business. structural tailwinds, sticky customers, low capital requirements, and ability to make steadily increasing profits over time. if they keep it they'll cash the realiable dividends and wait for a better time to sell up.

private equity are out of the running to buy assets at high prices. their business model relies on cheap debt, and that's become much more expensive. they will have to buy and sell at much lower valuations to make the sums add up from now on.

but if they keep 7mm they can keep taking its returns

maybe a forced seller out there? Really odd as now £20 below the latest NAV which I understand will reduce, but markets haven't fallen by near 40% and given its spread it seems ridiculous that CLDN is now at such a massive discount to last declared NAV even if you adjust that downwards. Let's see....DYOR and happy to continue to take the yield and build a holding if this gets below £30 for the long-term ISA
