20/6/2008 12:46 | The sun in out today and it is still falling...I must say I find all this nonsense about weather abject. It's not an ice cream van. The weather is warmer people go for a lighter brew. Perhaps rather than blaming extraneous events and hosing money on advertising campaigns aimed at a premium market management should look at reducing the price per bottle. Or may be that's too sensible. | mpto
20/6/2008 08:33 | The chart is a shocker now. Its spiked down on very heavy volume and fallen below the Moving Averages. The Moving Averages now become resistance. It will have to be an extraordinary summer for this to pick up. | eoc74

04/6/2008 07:26 | Its more likely with the Banking crisis that Anglo et al will be hitting the drink! Magners cider sales rise 13pc Wednesday June 04 2008 DRINKS Sales of C&C's Magners cider in British stores rose 13pc from a year earlier in the month through mid-May, Goodbody Stockbrokers said, citing figures from market researcher ACNielsen. The amount of Magners sold via the so-called off trade jumped 56pc from the prior month | lbo

23/5/2008 14:38 | 'UBS have downgraded C&C to SELL from neutral, giving '10 reasons why the summer will be challenging for C&C in GB. Analyst Jason DeRise belives that any boost to sales from good summer weather will be limited and that growing competition from Heineken's rival Bulmers will make life hard for C&C'. (Daily Telegraph, 23 May, pB7). For those minded to buy C&C (and that includes me,I topped up today) - this is exactly the broker's note that you would want. | lobby ludd
23/5/2008 11:55 | Very interesting times, there is a slow change in sentiment for C&C. My reasons for thinking things are getting brighter: 1. New MD has mixed things up 2. Magners on tap 3. Bulmers/Magners light - with a clever marketing campaign in Cosmopolitan (and hitting the exact target audience) 4. Euro 2008 5. Olympics 6. Whiskey Division booming 7. Lessons learned in foreign markets 8. Improved distribution links through Coors 9. Heineken's takeover - they are not known to adopt aggressive pricing strategies, which could see Heineken's Bulmers priced higher. All we need is a bit of sun and I think the companies fortunes will change. The last week has been incredible, the amount of people I saw drinking C&C bulmers was amazing. | r0cksteady
16/5/2008 09:02 | Sun factor: how higher temperatures can mean higher profits SUNNY DAYS do more than improve moods and spread vitamin D; they also deliver important nutrients to company balance sheets. However the dangers of depending too heavily on the weather for a performance boost were all too clear during the dismal summer of 2007, and several companies will now be scouring the long-range weather forecasts with sales-starved eyes, hoping for brighter days | lbo

13/5/2008 17:57 | It's up to £3.80 a bottle from £3 last year in my local. Mind you , it's only £9 for 8 x 500ml cans in Asda. | bionicdog

13/5/2008 13:24 | One of the few stories of the day concerned CC, which saw a reasonable volume of shares change hands both in Dublin and London. The share finished the day up 10 per cent, at 5.38, on the Dublin exchange. Some traders put the enthusiasm for the share down to a note from NCB analyst Paul Meade in which he made a few optimistic observations about the company. He cited the fact that the group is due to start selling its Magners cider on tap in the UK, and that a rebound is likely for the company if Ireland and Britain get "normal summer weather" this year. He moved the recommendation on the stock to an "add" from a "hold" and investors seemed to take note. Yesterday was CC's best single day rise in the past four months | lbo

27/4/2008 13:26 | C&C to launch Magners Light campaign 27 April 2008 By Samantha McCaughren - Sunday Business Post Cider owner C&C is hoping to boost sales of Magners Light in Britain, with a new campaign in gyms and hairdressers across London. Several fitness chains, including LA Fitness, David Lloyd, Esporta and Cannons, will display large Magners Light poster ads across 62 of their clubs for two weeks. The campaign will include women's locker posters, to appeal to a predominantly female audience. Around 110 hair and beauty salons will screen the Magners Light ad on interactive screens for four weeks. Participating salons, including the well-known Trevor Sorbie salons, will display Magners Light promotional material, with competitions and product sampling in some outlets. ''The gym and salon campaigns continue to highlight Magners Light as a great-tasting new low calorie option," said Richard Barnes, brand manager, Magners. ''This is a perfect example of how we are constantly looking for fresh and innovative ways to market our premium products, and these campaigns are sure to capture the imagination of our female target audience," he said. Maurice Pratt, chief executive, C&C, will report full year results on May 9, and will give an indication of how sales are performing against a background of slowing consumer confidence. On the plus side, it is understood the company has hedged favourably against sterling, at a time when it has weakened against the euro. | itansey

13/3/2008 08:58 | Tax let-off on cider pushes C&C shares up By Ailish O'Hora Thursday March 13 2008 Shares in the Bulmers/Magners manufacturer C&C Group Plc, rose the most in nearly two months yesterday after the British government hiked the tax on the popular brand by less than analysts had expected. The stock rose as much as 39 cent, or 9.7pc, to 4.40 in early trade. The stock finished trading yesterday at 4.17. Duty on cider is increasing by 3 pence a litre, while the price of a pint of beer will increase by 4 pence, the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling, said yesterday in his first budget speech. Alan Meale, a member of parliament for Britain's ruling Labour Party, put a petition before Parliament last month that would have tripled taxes on cider to bring them in line with duties on beer, similar to a move made here in the past. Goodbody Stockbrokers had estimated such an outcome would have cut C&C's earnings estimates by a third if the increase wasn't passed on to customers. Equalisation of the cider tax "would have had a real impact'' on C&C, said analyst Gavin Kelleher at Merrion Stockbrokers. - Ailish O'Hora | itansey
