BLD: Dont know much about this business, but at a quick glance it does seem a possible bet. At £6m mkt cap its nearly priced for collapse - if it does turn round upside must be substantial. I would reckon at 20p, its either 0p or 80p+ in a years time. so 4-1 returns if u think the odds are 50/50 on survival.

Niche market, good profits and dividends in the past. Expansion into USA appears usual disaster that most UK companies suffer. Still if damage not too great in USA and can sell off unprofitable UK cranes then we appear to have a good recovery play. If we get more positive news on banking/funding side I will be a buyer.

Anybody there? This has really gone south of late. I'm beginning to feel interested in a small fire & forget investment.

The expansion plans have been cut, cranes have been brought back to the UK, operations streamlined.
hope this helps

Can you elaborate on "sorted by all accounts"?

The move into the States was a costly one. The UK's operation was keeping it going. that has been sorted by all accounts. With results due in April Time now to get in at these levels 29p. IMHO,watch out for a steady rise in trades and price.

Jugears: Baldwins are associated with the construction sector which is doing well, yet have been marked down heavily. That's why I was looking at them. It's the sort of company I'd like to invest in. But the way I read the figures, the prospects look very bad indeed. For your sake I hope I'm wrong.

I still think that this is a good company with good long term pospects.

IMHO: Turnover of £41m for six months down on the previous six months (£76m - 34 = £42m). Costs/expenses up, so-called profit swallowed by interest whilst debts grow to £86m, exceeding turnover. Plus the late reporting, covenant breach, and debateable asset value, depreciating at £30m a year. It looks grim. Not for me. If I start seeing lots of cranes in the spring I'll look for a Baldwins logo, and if the share price has dropped maybe I'll have a speculative punt. But for now I can't see any light at the end of the tunnel.

scov - Assets are mainly cranes.. What rpice 2nd hand cranes still on Hire purchase in todays depressed construction market (depressed in terms of major capital projects rather than housebuilding. As I understand it most of Baldwins cranes - or atleast where the profit is - are heavy lift.

There were problems but it looks to me as if this company has been marked down too far. It managed to generate a prift and net assets are 38m against a mkt cap of 8m. I am not sure of the exact quality of those assets, but it does look like a case of over-selling.

Decent managament should bring the price much higher than it stands currently.

Seems there were BIG BIG problems. Gearing very high - margins falling - cranes breaking down - and banking covenants breached. All buys so far today - either very brave or short covering - not sure which. If any dealers on this board would be interested in your views. R.

No idea. Rather a worry in view of the previous news. analysis of accounts shows most of nav in 2nd hand cranes. Any idea of the price of a 2nd hand crane today. Must be one hell of a discountto cost if no available work?

Also price dropping and high level of sells today.

Seems the crane for hire business issuffering a downturn due to lower housing starts in the States.

Take care. Very highly geared. A material downturn could wipe out most or all of the profit. anyone any idea what covenants there are on the loans?
