BT climbs on hopes of end to Openreach stand-off - the following is an extract from an article published in the FT yesterday:

"The UK government could seek to break a stand-off between BT and regulator Ofcom by extending a pension guarantee to employees transferred to its Openreach network division, Bloomberg reported.

Ofcom last year called for Openreach to be a “legally separate” company within BT. But any transfer of liabilities risks undermining BT’s Crown guarantee, agreed on privatisation in 1994, which holds the government liable for pension obligations if the company were to be wound up.

Extending the guarantee would cost the current government nothing since BT is highly unlikely to go bust, RBC argued.

And ministers will be keen to avoid Ofcom having to refer BT to the European Commission over “a UK-only issue” just as Britain begins the process of withdrawing from the EU, it said.

“With the political cost/benefit likely to be acceptable to the government, a resolution could be forthcoming,” RBC told clients. “Resolution should remove one of the main overhangs on BT’s share price.”

We should have two threads BT investor thread and BT trader thread.

Only a couple of posters would make it in trader thread, toon, Jenny etc all amateurs. Nothing wrong with that, but annoying explaining strategy all the time.

Why did you go short monty when you know that this is so fundamentally undervalued. The share has recently dropped 21% with the Italian misdemeanour but that only accounts for about 1% of BT's revenue. I can understand you maybe trying a short when the stock was peaking about £5 but at these levels I would have called it madness.Roll on the stake building from the likes of AT&T or from the Far East.

Snapchat comes to the market in about 5 minutes, MC around 28 billion dollars.
To me that as just rung a bell, revenue 2 billion in 2018, not profit revenue, crazy. Thats the top of the market for Dow and FTSE 100 for me.

all it needs is bid talk. An actual bid anywhere in telecoms sector would see the whole lot up.

Bid or no bid, it doesn't matter. This has been driven to unsustainably low and undesereved level, and it's recovering. No crystal balls needed.
