25/1/2006 14:35 | Interesting. I hold BHP Billiton and was looking for something which was more directly linked to the uranium price, preferably in somewhere politically stable which I guess Canada almost qualifies for after the election result !!! | bluebelle
25/1/2006 14:25 | Very much so! I bought at $42 and then sold at $57 and then put them on watch and since they have raced up to $87. Looks to be a very sound company that will continue to benefit from the revival in interest in Nuclear. The question is can the share price be sustained at this level in the shortterm. | southmifti

25/1/2006 09:49 | Restructured British Energy returns to FTSE 100 NICK BEVENS BRITISH Energy was propelled back into the FTSE 100 yesterday, thanks to its refinancing and renewed interest in nuclear power. The promotion means Scotland's stock of blue-chip companies rises again to six. The firm, which owns eight nuclear power stations, produces one-fifth of the UK's electricity and is registered as headquartered on Alba Campus in Livingston, will replace mobile phone firm O2 following its £17.7 billion takeover by Spanish rival Telefonica. BE's fortunes have been transformed since the start of this year, with the value of its shares more than doubling to make it worth £3.5bn. This contrasted with its parlous position a year earlier when it needed banks and bondholders to write off about £1.3bn in debt in return for control of the group. The government-backed restructuring plan, agreed in 2003, diluted the original stakes of investors to just 2.5 per cent and limited their ability to benefit from the share price surge. Chief executive Bill Coley said the promotion, which will officially take effect tomorrow, was a "key milestone on our recovery journey". BE fell out of the top flight index in December 1999. British Energy owns Hunterston in Ayrshire and Torness in East Lothian. In November, Tony Blair, the Prime Minister, confirmed details of an energy review that could lead to a new generation of nuclear power stations being built. Great news. | sylvesterokojie111

23/1/2006 14:10 | The British government appear to have gone completely mad........"very high risk"... being of making a profit I assume LONDON (AFX) - The UK government is selling nuclear power station builder Westinghouse to reduce taxpayers' exposure to any risks from plans to build reactors in China, said Trade and Industry Secretary Alan Johnson. Speaking at the launch of the government's energy review, which is looking at the possibility of a new generation of nuclear power stations, Johnson said the "time is right" for a sale. "There is also the situation where Westinghouse are currently putting four nuclear reactors into China and it's a very high risk strategy and we actually don't think the taxpayer should be taking that risk," he said. | praipus

21/1/2006 20:35 | Some win, some loose. I noticed that many institutions have have been active in acquiring the BGY shares especially since the last quater of 05. The earnings forecast is over 400% to end march 06. Energy price continues to increase. Politically, nuclear energy seem to be gaining more favour. I think in the long term, BGY should do well. 21/1/2006 11:22 | ... its all down to what their own analysts recommend, don't actually know what the GS standpoint is at the moment, but on the one hand Morgan Stanley rates BGY as underweight with a 465p price target, and on the other hand Deutsche Bank increases price target to 650p from 600p and reiterates strong buy rating. | rocketsox
21/1/2006 10:58 | sylvester...I wish that were true, GS is actually selling shares. They had over 27million in November. I cant understand them selling though as this should go much higher IMHO. | grippa

19/1/2006 13:28 | Or could it be this piece of news from 'The Scotsman' yesterday? ''Utility Centrica moved up 0.25p to 251.5p after Cazonove advised that it will be a "tough year operationally" for the UK gas supplier, as the broker expects gas costs to rise by 44 per cent in the coming year. Cazenove also suggested Centrica (LSE: CNA.L - news) should consider the acquisition of British Energy (LSE: BGY.L - news) , down 10p at 582.5p, as it would be earnings enhancing and act as a "dirty hedge" to Centrica's short gas position''. How much will BGY sell for if it is to be taken over? Any one? My guess is somewhere between 5 and 7 billion.(GUT feeeling only) | sylvesterokojie111
