30/4/2009 21:29 | Results out - 6.6p full year dividend and discount to NAV looks reasonable value, albeit the spread is a killer. | topvest
01/2/2009 11:49 | I remeber in the early 1980s you got certain investment trust stables researching fledgling stocks and splitting stakes into their stable. One stable comes to mind GARTMORE they had a lot of investment trusts then. There was a stock called Telerate. Each trust depending on the shareholding in Telerate got a big lift up in nav. Now ICAP has the product that is why Spencer's stock has done so well in the past. | washbrook
01/2/2009 11:05 | Yes, "Geron Corporation is, quite simply, a cornerstone in the next generation of medical treatment.". I think Obama is pro- stem cell research and so this could do very well when we get out of the economic black hole that we are currently in. | topvest
01/2/2009 10:09 | I do like this Investment Trust. I would buy the stock but the spread is enormous. The dividend has trebled since 1996 @6.4p yields 9.85% at 65p The shares are tightly held J.WOOLF owns 64.5% , Jupiter monthly income unit trust 6.7%, Lady Lever 4.6% and Unwin investments 4.6%. GERON Corporation held up well in 2008 but in 2000 it spiked to $70. | washbrook
31/1/2009 16:09 | I thought I would start a thread on this independent investment trust, after buying some shares recently. It's a rather odd investment trust with a low risk managed portfolio combined with a large holding in Geron Corporation, the NASDAQ based stem cell research company. The dividend isn't covered by revenue at the moment, so there is some risk on that front. Otherwise, the portfolio looks ok. I think that Geron Corporation could be a major positive on a 1/2 year view, albeit the risk of this investment sits somewhat uncomfortably with the remainder of the portfolio. Anyone any thoughts or hold? | topvest |
