APAD: "I am a bit sceptical about BOO in menswear"

-how come? The demographic are using and open to influence on the same platforms which have executed to date so well for boohoo (social media etc.)

cycle2 thanks for the great report on the conference call. Are you correct though in saying that the new supersite will take 3 years to complete. If so then they may run out of capacity before completion. Unless they are going to open it in stages to keep up with growth.

A poster from another bb who claims to be in the 'know' reckons that a move into sportswear is being considered ... another great move if true ... I'm very positive about the direction this company is heading.

cycle2.
What I would add comes from the floor question about "seeing other brands on the BOO website".
Carol Kane's response was hugely reassuring - essentially "NO".
As I have commented on the VLG board, I think the common view, that BOO is an on-line shop, is mistaken.
If you go into ASOS it is like going into a shop. Turn left for menswear, this brand here, that brand that way.
If you go into BOO you effectively go into a 'brand'. It is a totally different experience from 'going into' PLT or NG. In each case you are immersed in one design philosophy.
This maps extremely well to the changes in the platform by being able to analyse the data in and across the different foci.

I am a bit sceptical about BOO in menswear, but would not back my judgement against that of Kane. As in the BBC, Evan Davies, program, Kane's straightforward way of talking separates her from designerly designers.

I would also emphasise the standing start of NG from March being hugely encouraging. I'd expected a bunch of dissatisfied US customers slowing them out of the blocks.
What I hadn't expected was the focus and success of the brand outside of the US.

IC viewAs the online fashion marketplace becomes ever more crowded, boohoo will have to work hard to maintain its value-for-money position. This could mean further margin erosion – although it's fair to say a storming top line is enough to protect profitability in the near term. Regardless, the shares' eye-watering 78 times forward earnings rating keeps us on the sidelines for now. Hold.

Hi cycle2 - that's a really useful post - thanks (Post 7945). Like you I am really impressed by the Social Media exploitation by BOO and the way they are marketing to 'kids' in a way that I see very few other businesses doing - I think most people really have not picked up on the relevance of this (no surprise when you consider the demographic of most of us Investors LOL).

I hadn't picked up on the migration of the Websites - looks a very good move and will enhance ability to use 'Web2.0' capabilities much more.

cheers, WD

Hi all,

I knocked out a Blog last night about a Simple Model for understanding the Value in Fast Growth Companies - and obviously BOO was ideal to use as an example !! BOO is my largest position and I won't be selling, have a look at the Blog and it might help your thinking on whether or not it has legs.

Cheers, WD
