11/12/2002 08:53 | AFX-Focus) 2002-12-11 08:38 GMT: Blick FY profits fall but underlying performance improving LONDON (AFX) - Blick PLC reported a fall in profits and sales for the year to September but said underlying performance is improving and that it is cautiously upbeat about its prospects. Pretax profits before exceptionals and goodwill fell to 7.8 mln stg in the period from 9 mln in the previous year, as sales on continuing operations declined to 67.5 mln from 72.7 mln. The company attributed the fall to loss-making security contracts taken in prior periods and the static digital TV market. After exceptional items, pretax profits fell to 5.4 mln stg from 7.2 mln. EPS before goodwill and exceptionals dropped to 19.15 pence from 20.17. The company held the final dividend at 9.5 pence, which left the full-year payout unchanged at 14.5. The company achieved 11 pct growth in new rental sales to 11.3 mln stg. Commenting on the results, chief executive Vanda Murray said: "This year has been a pivotal one for Blick and substantial progress has been achieved in difficult market conditions. Blick is in far better shape than it has been for some time. "The results of the restructuring of the business are having an effect and the underlying performance of the company is beginning to improve. As we enter the new financial year, we are cautiously optimistic about our prospects." newsdesk@afxnews.com | ainsoph | |
