Is it better to take the standard offer of cash + Shell B shares or take all Shell B shares? I'm thinking the latter. Any thoughts? Cheers

FT Royal Dutch Shell's £36 billion bid for rival BG Group is poised to win the support of most of the Anglo-Dutch oil giant's shareholders, paving the way for its completion despite a collapse in crude that has stoked fears the company is paying too much.

HenleyOn the contrary. The board might have timed this perfectly. The lower the RDSB share price, the cheaper the deal. Total cost has already been revised downwards. E

With the oil price falling as fast as this, surely the institutions are not going to vote this takeover through.
Reminds me of RBS takeover of ABN AMRO just as the financial crisis was taking hold.

martinbaker, According to the shareholder guide http://www.bg-group.com/assets/files/cms/Shareholder_Guide_including_FAQs.pdf It looks more likely that the figure used will be the opening price on 15th February. I'm more likely to go the other way and elect all in RDSB shares as this is a long term plan. Doing so would save on stamp duty and broker fees rather than just ploughing the cash back in myself at a later time.It also looks like if the 15th Feb is used then all new RDSB shares will be entitled to the Shell Q4 div as well. There are others more knowledgeable than me here so I too would like clarification.

I was thinking of converting the 3.83 cash into ShellB shares. Shell will be paying a dividend of $1.88 in 2016, approx £1.25. Thought having the extra ShellB shares was worth it. Only risk is don't know what the ShellB share price will be or what it will do in future, but seeing as we're getting ShellB shares anyway, might as well convert the cash.
