UK National Debt Tops £1trn For First Time

UK net debt has topped £1trn for the first time, according to official figures.

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics showed the nation's total debt rose to 64.2% of GDP in December, taking it over £1,003.9bn.

It was a 14% rise on the same time a year ago when Government debt was £883bn, and the highest figure since records began in 1993.

If The U.S. Government Keeps Spending Money Like This We Are Doomed...

...And If The U.S. Government Stops Spending Money Like This We Are Doomed

The Economic Collapse

If you increased your credit card spending by a couple thousand dollars per month would your lifestyle improve? Of course it would. By going into large amounts of debt, it is possible to live a lifestyle that you can't really afford, at least for a while. But if you keep racking up huge amounts of credit card debt every single month, eventually it gets to a point where it is extremely difficult to even keep up with the minimum monthly payments and the credit card companies will not lend you any more money. Well, on a larger scale it is the same thing with government debt.

84 percent of Americans disapprove of the job Congress is doing, poll finds

By Paul Kane and Jon Cohen,

Lawmakers will return to Washington on Tuesday to begin an election-year work session with low expectations for any significant legislative action, while also receiving low approval ratings for themselves.

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows a new high - 84 percent of Americans - disapproving of the job Congress is doing, with almost two-thirds saying they "disapprove strongly." Just 13 percent of Americans approve of how things are going after the 112th Congress's first year of action, solidifying an unprecedented level of public disgust that has both sides worried about their positions less than 10 months before voters decide their fates.

What a decade! A rapidly urbanizing global population driven by tremendous growth in emerging markets has sent commodities on quite a run over the past 10 years. If you annualized the returns since 2002, you find that all 14 commodities are in positive territory.

This old man is going to be the next US president, I find it hard to type the words, to put that opinion to the record. But it has to be said, he's going to do it, against all the odds, just imagine it..

A few good links that give a deeper insight into the next leader of the 'free world,'
President Paul.

Twenty top predictions for life 100 years from now

Last week we asked readers for their predictions of life in 100 years time. Inspired by ten 100-year predictions made by American civil engineer John Elfreth Watkins in 1900, many of you wrote in with your vision of the world in 2112.

Many of the "strange, almost impossible" predictions made by Watkins came true. Here is what futurologists Ian Pearson (IP) and Patrick Tucker (PT) think of your ideas.
