Thanks apdi71, the man was talking sense. I liked the stuff about the fish and bartering.

I reckon cashless business transactions have become far more popular in recent years, as they're usually private transactions, there's probably no good statistics available on just how popular the phenomena is.

Bitcoin Laws Imminent

This week the US courts service (UScourts.gov) has shown increasing interest in Bitcoins. Their research is ongoing but hastily scaling-up from where it was last week.

Seems we have new orders from the top.

The question then becomes, who's first in the Bitcoin firing line?
Bitcoin Miners.
Bitcoin Exchanges.
Bitcoin Wallet Owners.
Bitcoin Commerce.

A quick rundown and recommendations for enforcement:

Great stuff from Nigel Farage (post 2765); who tells em straight in the Euro gravy train wonderland. Wonderland for the likes of Leon Brittan and the Kinnock family that is.

Enviro they should just take it private at cash valuation ie 26p and save themselves the circa £500k pa costs of being listed! That would leave them a business with PTP of over £500k per annum valued at 5x = £2.5m

LBO - 31 Jan'11 - 09:38 - 122 of 130 edit

Interims better then my figures above! Business is worth more then £750k on these. Earnings per share for the period (continuing operations) were 0.72 pence. Going on this the business should be valued at least 5x1p = 5p plus 26p cash = 31p valuation

Revenue from continuing operations GBP2.41 million

Profit before tax from continuing operations GBP0.17 million

Cash generative with increase in cash balances to GBP2.65 million
at 28 Jan 2011 cash balances were GBP2.97 million

Investing in Emerging Market Currencies May Be Prudent for Long Term

The so-called train may have left the station a decade ago, but investors that missed that ride are still clamoring to invest in emerging market economies because, put quite simply, that is where the growth is. Every CEO has confirmed this fact during their quarterly earning conference calls for the past year. Resources must be devoted to developing Asian markets and their prospering middle-class consumers, while domestic hiring plans are put on hold.

If investing in these markets is prudent, then it may also be wise to invest in the native currencies for the long term. Many of these currencies have been "pegged" to the U.S. Dollar or a basket of currencies, and therefore, a common forex trading platform cannot easily aid in the purchase of them, but over time, government officials will have to let these currencies float, if only to quell inflationary pressures at home.

The "Yuan", or "Renmenbi" as it is often called, is China's national currency. Backed by foreign exchange reserves in excess of $2.4 trillion and an industrial growth curve that will make China the world's economic leader by 2020, the value of this currency can only go up. Buying it is difficult, as with other emerging market currencies, but there are ETFs that have been created just for this purpose.

One way to buy the Yuan. I haven't researched this ETF properly, the worry is the time decay factor which most ETF's suffer from. This is not something that should go up at a 45 degree angle, but it might go up when everything else is going down, and it ought to go up for the next few decades.

The WikiLeaks of Money
Is Bitcoin a revolution or a bubble?
BY JOSHUA E. KEATING | JUNE 23, 2011

For something that few had heard of a month ago, the online currency Bitcoin tends to elicit pretty strong responses. Depending on whom you ask, Bitcoin is the "future of money," a "crypto-geek Ponzi scheme," an "online form of money laundering," or a tool for "libertarian hipsters and criminals."

Bitcoins: What are they, and how do they work?

Bitcoin is one of the first attempts to create a real-world currency with no governments, no central banks, and no rules

It started, and ended, with a click. With one touch of a mouse, a hacker managed to transfer 25,000 credits of online currency – then worth almost $500,000 dollars – to his own account. The transfer is visible on a public register; the original owner has publicised his plight online, but to no avail – the money is gone.

This hack, which happened in June 2011, was the first major online heist for Bitcoins, one of the world's newest currencies, and the subsequent panic left many casual users reeling.

Days later, it was dwarfed by hack number two: an attack on the currency's biggest online exchange, involving more than 400,000 Bitcoins – worth almost $9m (£5.5m). The attempt to sell off the coins was a sale so huge it plunged the value of each coin from more than $17 to $0.01.

The exchange, MtGox, was promptly taken offline, and is planning to reverse the transactions. No-one knows what the currency will be worth – if anything – when it reopens.
