Legally BPC are in a solid position. FM will be declared on the licenses and an extension almost certainly given. They may get a year or more extension at this rate? Just a thought, with the low oil price environment maybe even a merger with another oil company could be on the cards?? The wording in the last RNS referred to strategic alternatives.

My thoughts exactly about these objections... somewhat late to the party and not that well informed. Do you thing this has much chance of causing bpc a problem with its drill? Personally I would have thought Mike Pompeo would have much bigger fish to fry.

The BHG need an oil find to enable them to get immediate borrowing on the back of the discovery to underpin their future - which otherwise is close to catastrophic. These few US senators will one day be glad that the US is not dependent on oil from the Gulf.

It's a bit late for the US to start complaining, albeit only 16 of them. BPC are not drilling a production oil well. It's an exploratory oil well, therefore no guarantees that oil will be found that can be spilled. I'm surprised the 16 who are complaining don't realise that billions of barrels of oil are shipped up and down the Florida coast all year round. Anyone of these tankers could have a catastrophic accident and spill millions of barrels in one go all along the coastline which would have a much greater immediate affect than an oil well. The risk to the US and their coastline is there 24/7. It's only a few inches that separates the hull of a tanker and the ocean. Anyhow, the Government have given approval for the drilling, and it's rescheduled for October.

Part of the drop is due to the fact oil is traded on it's future (not current) price and the May contracts are due to expire tomorrow. Have you quoted West Texas because of the BPC location as Brent Crude is twice that at $27?

What is more of a factor is the potential volume of a find. It derisks a huge structure of 2Bn barrels.

Hard to get through to the naysayers that the time to drill an offshore well is while drill costs are at their lowest and rigs a plenty. The coronavirus is just a delay. As the company have stated, the situation has presented some interesting opportunities. For BPC, cost reductions are more important. With funding partners flexible, the delay of 6 months is not a deal breaker. Oil production on any find is not expected for another 2-3 years. Today's oil price is not a factor..imo, dyor.

Oil demand should rebound sharply once economic activity returns to normal - but currently when exactly that will happen is unknown. even if Q3 with majors and super majors now voluntarily reducing production and ruthlessly slashing CAPEX - you have to question the desire for new frontier EXPLO- let's be honest BPC were struggling to secure funds prior to crisis. doesn't inspire confidence for future prospect near to mid term
