Italy is an exception. Italy always gets hit worse by flu than any other European country.

If you want to watch trends, I suggest watching a country like Germany. What is the current mortality rate in Germany ?

Plenty of scientific papers out there study why Italy is always the worst affected country by flu in the whole of Europe (written well before this little virus started its worldwide tour).
