05/4/2013 11:04 | Search me!! Although what happened with ENK might provide an insight? (edit: I think I'd need a large piece of paper to draw out all the companies and inter- relationships involved here...) | dashton42
05/4/2013 11:03 | Does this improve the chances of them buying Avarea? | battlebus2
05/4/2013 10:59 | Nice work zangdook, this is now the official Montoya/AVR research thread! So, William Pears Group, of which Guy Walker is the Group Treasurer, largely seems to be a property company (hence Antipodean Supermarkets I suppose), but it also appears to have a London-based fund management division - Talisman Global Asset Management: "Talisman was incorporated in 1998 as the asset management arm of a single family, following the sale of real estate assets which provided £50m of investment capital in 1994 The current Talisman structure was established in 2001 with AUM of £250m Today Talisman has AUM of £1.8bn" I'm not sure if Talisman Global Asset Management has any connection to Montoya Investments Ltd., although your 2nd link shows that Guy Walker was the COO at Talisman. | dashton42
05/4/2013 08:01 | Antipodean Supermarkets seems to be owned by these people, but I can't see any other connection with GE Navigator Resources is in administration. It doesn't list GE as a director on its site, but here's a picture of Guy Walker: | zangdook
05/4/2013 07:58 | Indeed! That's what I'm wondering about AVR; if Montoya/Mr Walker/Mr Edwards consider that it's undervalued by the market, and a bit of activism may shake things up. Or else, possibly, a buyout. | dashton42
05/4/2013 07:53 | Thanks I no longer have any direct interest in any of his companies AFAIA, since he ate ENK, but it's always interesting to know more about these shadowy types who take over companies. | zangdook
05/4/2013 07:42 | zangdook, if you're interested, this form from 2011 details the Montoya individuals, along with a NZ address, in connection with AU Mining... Mr Walker sits on a number of boards: Director Antipodean Supermarkets Limited 2011-Present Non Executive Director and Member of Audit Committee Metals Exploration Plc 2012-Present Non-Executive Director Mineral Commodities Limited 2012-Present Non-Executive Director ENK PLC 2012-Present Non-Executive Director, Member of Audit Committee and Member of Remuneration Committee Navigator Resources Limited | dashton42
05/4/2013 05:59 | Ah, well done zangdook. Now we know who the players are, but I wonder what the rationale behind the avr holding is...? | dashton42
04/4/2013 18:30 | "Graham Edwards is the beneficial owner of Montoya Investments." "I learned at the last AGM that GE was a "high net worth long-term investor"." | zangdook
04/4/2013 18:20 | Well, good luck. Tell us here if you find anything. I wouldn't be surprised if Graham Edwards is the man behind it all. | zangdook
04/4/2013 18:13 | Ah, Guy Walker was the Group Treasurer at William Pears Group, which is the beneficial owner of Telereal Trillium, whose CE has a trust that owns D & A Income Ltd., which employs, erm, Guy Walker as an Adviser, said Guy Walker also being Company Secretary of Montoya Investments, which owns a bucketload of AVR... Simple really. And I'm still none the wiser. | dashton42
04/4/2013 17:57 | ...and: "D&A is an investment company, owned by a trust of which the principal beneficiary is Graham Edwards, chief executive of Telereal Trillium, one of the UK's largest property companies." Not too sure how all of this relates back to AVR, if at all (!) | dashton42
04/4/2013 17:45 | Ok, it's a bit off-topic, but I've got the bit between the teeth on this Montoya thing. Here's a biog on Guy Walker, who's the Montoya company secretary: Mr. Guy R. Walker, BCA, CA (NZ), CFA serves as Company Secretary of Au Mining Limited and Montoya Investments Limited. Mr. Walker serves as an Advisor to D & A Income Limited. He has over 20 years experience in financial markets and funds management in NZ, North America and the UK. Mr. Walker served as the Chief Operating Officer at Talisman Global Asset Management Limited until April 2006 and its Fund Manager from 2000 to April 2006. He joined Talisman Global Asset in 2000. During this period, he supervised the growth of Talisman from its infancy to a fully registered UK FSA investment management company with over Pound500 million under management. He served as Group Treasurer of The William Pears Group of Companies Limited. etc. | dashton42
04/4/2013 17:32 | Thanks zangdook; I've done as you suggested, found millions of references to Montoya, and at the end of it, am not really any the wiser! | dashton42
04/4/2013 17:24 | ...or Praipus on the WAM thread may know something. | zangdook
04/4/2013 17:19 | If you search back on the ENK thread you may turn up something. | zangdook
04/4/2013 17:15 | They can't be that frustrated, if they've topped up to 28.8%. I've been trying to find out more about Montoya Investments Ltd., but am really struggling to find anything - apart from the fact that they seem to be based in the US, and they're described as "mysterious"...! Wonder what their agenda is? | dashton42
05/3/2013 10:24 | They must be frustrated at nothing happening | badtime
05/3/2013 10:09 | Montoya now holding 28.8%. | battlebus2
11/12/2012 08:43 | Interims should be due around now...? | dashton42
13/8/2012 08:52 | Yes, a decent discount to the NAV, and a "progressive" dividend policy from here. Good stuff - one to tuck away, imho. Good recent results from SGI, and just waiting for NBL to report in November (I think). | dashton42
13/8/2012 06:46 | Excellent performance dashton42 with the nav at 14.2p. Outlook Despite the continued economic difficulties throughout the financial markets and the Eurozone, Avarae has again successfully demonstrated that it is a genuine alternative asset play, as evidenced by it reporting material increases in profit and NAV for the year, together with some significant realisations of its investment portfolio. The Company has a strong balance sheet, including a coin portfolio with a carrying value, as reported on by industry experts, of more than GBP10.1 million and net cash of GBP1.3 million. The Directors, therefore, remain optimistic about the Company's future prospects. | battlebus2
13/8/2012 06:05 | Maiden divi!!! | dashton42
28/2/2012 00:55 | Back in here with a small punt. Maybe more to come? | greek islander
27/2/2012 19:31 | Up again i see. No RNS's though. | jeanesy |
