Googled it.
Electrolysis splits water into Hydrogen and Oxygen.
Storage of H is not easy so adding N2 to H2 provides NH3 - Ammonia. This is done in the ratio N2 + 3 H2 to provide 2 NH3. Ammonia is easier to store and transport.

Whilst researching this I noted the concern that sunny locations (Aus, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia) are often not close to industries likely to require hydrogen.

Then I remember reading that a village Devon named Alverdiscott is receiving power by shallow undersea cable from a Moroccan solar farm. Ex Tesco David Lewis is running the show.

So, if H2 cannot easily be stored/transported why cannot the power for the electrolysis be generated in sunny climes and cabled to the industrial areas where H2 is needed such as Ports, Airports, marshalling yards?

My guess (before I Google it) the oxygen comes from the splitting of H2O into hydrogen and oxygen by electrical power. Curious as to where the ammonia comes in.

Rich, not sure where Oxygen comes into the process for making NH3. How does it work?

Rich2006 - thanks for the clarification on generation. Iceland has to be a shoe-in for geothermal I agree.

I was however implying on a wider scale, here in the UK in particular, the benefit that would be derived from using the electricity that is generated by wind and solar at times when it is not actually nneded. Hydrogen produced and stored at such times could be utilised when more electric is needed. The concept is used at sewage treatment works.

Atome are not utilising solar or wind power as far as i am aware they are using geothermic and hydro power.
Ammonia Is a key part of the concept as this gives Atome more options for marketing- energy, fertiliser Etc
Let’s also not forget the other valuable by product of the process “Oxygen”, there will plenty of markets for that to be sold into.
I believe once we tie down some signed agreements the company will be much more vocal about the benefits and options available.

Bought some ppc as well today as it’s right on the bottom imo. Green energy interests may well propel it higher eventually.

Hi MCunliffe. Yes a red hot sector and one to build on for the future. Both hydrogen production (ATOM) and hydrogen storage (GTC) are in my view exceptional opportunities to take advantage of the sector from slightly different perspectives. I'm invested in both and continuing to add to both as funds allow building a sizeable position. I was unable to get in to ATOM on the float so grateful to do so at a similar price now. There will obviously be other companies at a later date but these two will have first mover advantage in an exciting market.

Welcome aboard. Likewise i invested as i liked what i read about this share. We may well be thanking bounty later on in this year as this could easily 10 bag and still below 300m mkt cap

Hello all. Bounty pointed me in this share's direction as I follow Rolls Royce. Bought two modest chunks for my two grandkids' trust funds at AJ Bell.

It strikes me that generating green (not blue) Hydrogen is a better way of storing energy than batteries. But, the electricty used in the water splitting process MUST be fully green electric.

I think of the payments made to wind farms and solar farms when demand is low and supply high and they are instructed to turn-off the generation. It's at that point that hydrogen should be manufactured. Storage for the gas could so easily be under the North Sea in the depleted gas fields.
