Notification concerning interests in ordinary shares of US$0.50 each in the
capital of Anglo American plc ("the Company")

We received on 7 November 2003 notice given on behalf of the following entities
pursuant to sections 198(1), 202(3) and 202(4) of the Companies Act 1985 in
relation to the transaction specified below.

The entities concerned are:

*    E Oppenheimer & Son Holdings Limited ("EO&S Holdings") of 9 rue Sainte 
     Zithe, L-2763, Luxembourg:
*    E Oppenheimer & Son International Limited ("EO&S International") of 9
     Columbus Centre, Pelican Drive, Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands;
*    Respite Holdings Limited ("Respite") of 9 Columbus Centre; aforesaid; and
*    Maitland Trustees Limited ("the Fairfield Trustees") of 9 Columbus
     Centre, aforesaid;
     
1.   On 10 July 2002, EO&S Holdings, EO&S International, Respite and the
     Fairfield Trustees advised that they had had a notifiable interest in 
     52,250,206 Ordinary Shares of US$0.50 in the capital of the Company, 
     registered as follows:

2.   On 5 November 2003 the following transactions occurred:

     13,755,838 Ordinary Shares previously registered in the name of Naunton 
     Limited were registered in the name of Central Holdings Limited:

     1,244,162 Ordinary Shares previously registered in the name of Gartland 
     Limited were registered in the name of Central Holdings Limited:

     7,654,242 Ordinary Shares previously registered in the name of Gartland 
     Limited were registered in the name of EO&S Holdings.
     
3.   Following the transactions on 5 November 2003, EO&S Holdings, EO&S 
     International, respite and the Fairfield Trustees had a notifiable 
     interest in 52,250,206 Ordinary Shares of US$0.50 in the capital of the 
     Company, registered as follows:

4.   On 6 November 2003, 39,595,964 Ordinary Shares previously registered in

     Holdings.
     
5.   Following the transaction on 6 November 2003, EO&S Holdings, EO&S
     International, Respite and the Fairfield Trustees had a notifiable 
     interest in 52,250,606 Ordinary Shares of US$0.50 in the capital of the 
     Company, registered as follows:
