Notification concerning changes to interests pursuant to Section 324(2) of the
Companies Act 1985 (the "Act") in ordinary shares ("Ordinary Shares") of
US$0.50c in the capital of Anglo American plc (the "Company")

We were advised on 10 December 2003, pursuant to the provisions of section 324
(2) of the Act that as a result of a transaction undertaken on 8 December 2003,
Mr N F Oppenheimer acquired an interest in 400 Ordinary Shares of US$0.50 each
in the Company, purchased by the H R Lasch Family Trust.


Mr N F Oppenheimer is a trustee of the H R Lasch Family Trust and has an
interest in the H R Lasch Family Trust by virtue of the interest in which his
wife has in that trust.
