31/3/2017 11:26 | yeah, but if it was Scotland's oil, they've been subsidising England for about 40 years | skinwalker
31/3/2017 11:23 | In 2015/16, public spending per head in the UK as a whole was £9,076. In England, it was £8,816 (3% below the UK average). This compares with: • Scotland: £10,536 (16% above the UK average) • Wales: £9,996 (10% above the UK average) • Northern Ireland £10,983 (21% above the UK average). | steelwatch
31/3/2017 10:44 | Including pensions in debt is ludicrous. All the pension money is in the pension funds, money is still going into the funds and out to pensioners, it's a cyclic process, the money can't be called in at short notice, people have to wait until they reach pensionable age before they can touch their part of it. Including it in debt is otherwise known as massaging the figures to suit someone's agenda. | haggismchaggis
31/3/2017 10:37 | Kinkell, Your post 62792 which you now say you wish you had not posted is still there. If you post something that is a mistake you DELETE it. You numpty.Unless of course you have an hidden agenda. Hmmmmm | luckygit
31/3/2017 10:31 | Ngms,The true figure for the Uk's debt is around £4.8 Trillion. Taking that into account by a factor of x2 puts the UK in much the same position as Greece. From The National Debt Clock. "Mainstream media headlines today are focused on Britain's record national debt, which just surpassed £1 trillion, a figure that can only exponentially increase unless the entire mechanism of Government finance is overhauled. The truth however is much worse, factoring in all liabilities including state and public sector pensions, the real national debt is closer to £4.8 trillion, some £78,000 for every person in the UK." As for your rather silly comment of rebuilding Hadrians Wall it would mean England losing all its land from Wallsend to Berwick. That's around 65 miles. Then again a lot of our good English friends from Newcastle and across to Carlisle have more in common with Scotland than those good people who live south of the Watford Gap. | luckygit
31/3/2017 09:28 | I've no idea if those figures are correct, but if only 10% of the people are in debt, they would be responsible for 100%, so I guess it might be possible. I suppose it depends if you are referring to non asset backed debt or not. Buffy | buffythebuffoon
31/3/2017 09:27 | stepone68, it's due to the monies spent in Scotland per person. Effectively it's massively subsidised by the rest of the UK, more specifically England. | ngms27
31/3/2017 09:18 | Anyone heard of Solo oil and gas ???? | paulhgreen
31/3/2017 09:15 | Jonny, how on earth can 5.8% of the population be 'responsible' for 33% of the debt. That's just ridiculous. | stepone68
31/3/2017 07:53 | Hi Extrader, I really didn't know that; so thanks for educating me. Regards, Buffy | buffythebuffoon
31/3/2017 07:00 | Aye nobody likes them...shouldn't be a career. More like jury duty. The Queen is our leader. | gerryjames
31/3/2017 06:57 | "(like the rest of us)" hmm ?, Westminster democracy is far from perfect i know, as they are only human after all, but at lest we can kick them all out after 5 years if we want. I've known of worst forms of rulers. | blackgold00
31/3/2017 06:48 | Salmond and Sturgeon play on the fact that the Scots (like the rest of us) don't trust and feel let down by Westminster politicians. | jamiedodge
31/3/2017 00:48 | Some good sizes Buys today with 5 million buys against 1.4 million sells. Good to be up but disappointing the highs of the day were not sustained with such heavy buying. | 888icb
30/3/2017 17:31 | ngms27 good post, although I really hope the Scots stay with us. having said that, part of me would like to see the SNP get Scottish independence and go bankrupt just to see the Scottish people turn on Sturgeon & Salmond and watch those two get what they deserve. Scottish independence would be a very sad day for the UK and the Scottish people imho. We need to stick together as the English,Scots,Welsh and Irish are much better/stronger when we are together. | lithological heterogeneities
30/3/2017 17:23 | Luckygit tgg I don't wish to debate political issues on this thread. I have already apologised for the error. Over and out. | kinkell
30/3/2017 17:15 | Utter rubbish Luckygit. Greece currently has debt of 179% of GDP whilst the UK is 88% of GDP According to the National Audit Office around 33% of all UK debt is accrued by Scotland's 5.8% of the UK population. Scotland is bankrupt without the UK propping it up and is actually in a worse place than Greece. I'm happy for the jocks to go there own way and Hadrians wall to be rebuilt. | ngms27
30/3/2017 17:11 | kinkell, Out of interest, do you have confidence in the shameless liar currently occupying number 10? | thegreatgeraldo
30/3/2017 17:02 | Kinkell, Britain owes around £1.7 Trillion which puts it roughly on the same finances as Greece. You may not be aware but Scotland cannot borrow. The only borrowing within the UK is done solely by Westminster authority. Since Scotland cannot borrow it therefore cannot be in debt. Any debt that is accrued to Scotland is done and dusted by the powers that be in London. As for SNP running an Independent Scotland. There would be a Scottish General Election where you can vote for Tory, Labour etc. It is not the SNP'S policy to stay in government after Independence but to smooth the way to a fair and democratic election. It will be up to the people of Scotland to decide in the end. | luckygit
30/3/2017 16:25 | edgar, My point was not about Brexit but the SNP. I admire the Germans for many things - their work ethic, their high quality products such as motor cars and indeed their discipline, etc. However when their financial discipline is applied through their influence of the EU towards for example Greece and Cyprus etc I am less than enthused. I would not like to see Scotland becoming "the next Greece, without the sunshine", as someone once said. I also do not support independence for Scotland, especially under the current leadership of the SNP in whom I have no confidence. That is all. Please accept my apologies for the OT - not to be repeated. | kinkell
30/3/2017 16:09 | excellent, that should satisfy the requirements for a 25 year development license then | blackgold00
30/3/2017 15:36 | RNS tomorrow confirming find of a Unicorn at the bottom of N2, it is farting untold amounts of gas. Average life span of a Unicorn: 25 years. | kryptonsnake

30/3/2017 15:03 | edgar Don't want to upset you but try to get to the end of this if you can: Seems a lot of people are quite ignorant unless they were selectively chosen eh? Bet you knew the answers! LT | last throw |
