21/1/2009 10:26 | Kamukak : Back in the 530s . We're getting there! From my expereince AMEC is very much a 'news driven ' stock. HOLD OFF FOR THE TIME BEING IS MY ADVICE TO YOU. | wendsworth
20/1/2009 16:51 | Kamukak: I'm not currently a holder but have been and made substantial profits out of AMEC. My view is you'll be able to buy these at a discount to current levels . Why? The general market will impact on AMEC' share price in the short term. I expect top be buying back in sub 500p. | wendsworth
16/1/2009 08:30 | Kamulak, I would certainly go along with that. In summary not very exciting but a safe haven if you are looking for one with a good dividend. Wendsworth, IMO its more likely to go over 600p and beyond rather than 500p | donemyhomework2
15/1/2009 16:00 | Hi guys, Blue index are asking me to buy AMEC cfds because they really think that amec is ready to go upwards. Just wanted to know if you long term holders also think the same. Thanks in advance. "Shares in engineering group Amec have pushed higher above the November & December resistance levels at 535p. While the shares stay above this level, our initial target is the November intraday high of 596p. But the chart shows a strong rectangle break formation, and on the strength of this, during the coming month we expect the shares to climb higher and possibly touch the 200 day moving average zone at 697p" Amec said it expects to report full-year profits at the top end of market expectations after experiencing strong demand for its services during 2008. The company said pre-tax profit is expected to exceed GBP200 million, compared with analysts' forecasts ranging between £193 million and £205 million. The Blue Index view is that while AMEC's business model may not be the most exciting in the world, the company has proved to be relatively resilient, and therefore a safe haven for the Credit Crunch. Given the positive technical signals, the shares should be a strong buy. | kamukak
14/1/2009 15:37 | Doemyhomework2; Good trading update today BUT still reckon you're wrong ref 500p. I could be wrong about 400p . Lets split the difference ..and say 450p! Problem is .....even if the company 'is doing well' the share price will be driven by the price of oil and the DOW. I cannot see either rising substantially in the first quarter of 2009. Indeed my call for the DOW is to reach 7000!!!!!!!!!! | wendsworth
14/1/2009 08:33 | Too much cash c £750m and too large order book to even get sub 500p IMO | donemyhomework2
29/12/2008 13:40 | With the FTSE up >2.5% this is getting a bit of a pasting today. Worth looking at sub 400p is my view. Any other calls? | wendsworth
22/12/2008 16:32 | Best left alone until well into the New Year. I anticipate some 'bad days at black rock' for the market in general in January and February when REALITY begins to set in. | wendsworth
18/12/2008 11:10 | Wonder if they used Borat's PR skills to clinch that contract! Either way - proof still business to be had in one of three operating divs in Amec. | allseeingeye
05/12/2008 16:01 | The policy could be counter productive. The blame for unpopular planning decision will be put firmly at the governments door by the electorate. It could result in some projects being held back until after the next election. You could end up with peaks and troughs of work related the to election cycle. | henryatkin
28/11/2008 16:01 | Below should benefit AMEC if final comment holds true. Be interested to hear any views on this.... The new planning and local transport acts have both gained royal assent. Under the Planning Act 2008 councils lose powers over applications for major infrastructure projects, which will instead be decided by an Infrastructure Planning Commission, comprising government-appointed experts. The commission will operate within planning policy statements approved by parliament, and councils will be as consultees. Statements are proposed on: energy, fossil fuels, renewable energy, electricity networks, gas and downstream oil infrastructure, nuclear power, ports, strategic highway and rail networks, aviation, water supply and waste water treatment and non-nuclear hazardous waste. Communities secretary Hazel Blears said the new act would speed up applications for major projects. | allseeingeye
27/11/2008 11:59 | Bit of an update on what is happening in AMEC. 1) AMEC start FEED for Gateway Gas Storage, as project wins Government approvals Wed, 26 Nov 2008 2) Multi-million dollar contract win by Clough AMEC (Australia O&G). 3)Fine for fatality in SNS - | triguy
26/11/2008 13:24 | Absolutely unbelievable spike round about 09.00hrs today ..with the share going ex-dividend!!!!!!!!! | wendsworth
25/11/2008 15:30 | ...but just think how much further that div goes now we have a cut in VAT! | allseeingeye
25/11/2008 15:08 | Allseeingeye: Yes 5.3p payable on 2nd Jan. Not sure the yield is a major factor with such volatility. | wendsworth
25/11/2008 14:37 | ...unlike boring old bank stocks or FTSE 100 stalwart like Rio Tinto - sign o the times wouldn't you say. Goes ex div tomorrow. | allseeingeye
25/11/2008 12:53 | Very volatile. | wendsworth
18/11/2008 16:12 | What a recovery ! | beaudelaire
18/11/2008 08:57 | Taking a hammering this morning! | wendsworth
17/11/2008 20:29 | Seymour Pierce upgraded its recommendation for shares in project management firm Amec (AMEC) to 'buy' from 'hold' after the recent slump in the share price, saying the order book is still growing and the company is sufficiently diverse to offset any short-term weakness. "The correlation with the oil price is particularly strong due to fears that the order book will decline as capital projects are cancelled in the economic slowdown. However, we believe these fears are overdone," it commented. For the current year the broker has raised its pre-tax forecasts from 186.2 million pounds to 196.2 million pounds and EPS from 39.7p to 40.8p. For 2009, it has moved its forecasts from 206.4 million pounds to 237 million pounds and from 43.4p to 53.4p. Its price target for the shares, which climbed 5p to 503p, is 650p. | taylor20
13/11/2008 12:24 | Allsee - In reality if commodity prices drop AMEC who uses loads of materials and energy should benefit from it. AMEC contracts projects several years in advance. The nuclear industry will be a big chunk for its income. AMEC also does loads of decommissioning and servicing which is a huge earner thus why governments budgets are involved. | beaudelaire
12/11/2008 17:09 | I find it weird the way AMEC's share price mirrors the fortunes or otherwise of the oil price as if their sole business is built around supporting the oil sector. The BNFL contract is an obvious example of why this ain't so - less than half their revenues comes from direct oil/gas work. | allseeingeye
12/11/2008 16:22 | DOW down about 290 points.Won't help in the short term. | wendsworth |
