30/1/2010 14:40 | From UK Analyst after RNS yesterday. Engineering and project management firm AMEC (AMEC) said that it has bought the Australian arm of management consultancy firm Currie & Brown for 20.1 million pounds. The purchase is part of AMEC's plan to expand in key regions. The shares added 19.5p to 756.5p. | llados

08/12/2009 10:56 | nickjoseph....ive traded amec for years...have to say you're a brave soul to short it with Samir at the helm....there is definite scope for this stock to keep an upward trend over the next few years...with acquisitions and organic growth this could be a 1200 - 1400 p stock within 18 - 24 months......i'm not ramping..i'm not long right now....just a word of caution! | b3eper
07/12/2009 21:03 | Westhouse Securities published a note on AMEC (AMEC) after a presentation to outline the company's strategy to 2015. AMEC said that it intends to enhance its capabilities in subsea engineering, underground mining, renewable energy and water. The firm expects that organic revenue growth, improved margins, acquisitions and tax efficiencies will all help to drive earnings growth. The broker said that it was "impressed" by the presentation, calling it "measured and sensible". It expects acquisitions to concentrate on related competencies and geographies. Westhouse commented that AMEC "should be a core holding in any exposure to the oil services sector". The 'buy' recommendation remained unchanged. AMEC shares fell by 13p to 797p | bluebelle

13/11/2009 11:55 | As ever, investment decisions are largely a function of your time scale. I've held these for quite a while and have no plans to sell : I like the long term fundamentals. It's a quality stock in growth markets and the dividend - which looks pretty safe - is better than I'm getting on my cash deposits. I think there's something in the argument that Brikho has picked the low hanging fruit first, but to be fair to the guy there wasn't all that much of it and it wasn't all that low ! The simple fact of the matter is that he has delivered on his stated objectives and then some and the concentration on margins seems to me to be a sensible strategy given that the group is now much better focused strategically than it was. I know the bit about past performance being no guide to the future but in fact it's the best one an investor has got : good, well managed profitable companies tend to perform better in the future than bad ones. On that basis, given that Brikho has done what he has said so far, I'm more prepared to believe him than some analyst at a second rate broker with hardly the best track record in a business which hasn't exactly covered itself in glory over the last few years !!! | bluebelle
13/11/2009 08:52 | check this : LONDON (SHARECAST) - The trading update from AMEC was 'perhaps more muted than some might have expected', according to Panmure Gordon, which remains a seller of the engineering and project management company's shares. Though performance remains in line with management expectations, Panmure Gordon is concerned about the trading environment, which remains tough. 'This is very much reflected by the order book which is currently standing at approximately £2.94bn compared to £3.22bn at the interim stage representing an 8.7% decline,' notes Panmure analyst Peter Hitchens. The broker says that the company has 'fixed its margins' through its 'Operation Excellence' programme, and will now address growth issues. Management of AMEC is due to present its 'Vision 2015' strategic plan to the market on 4 December, and Panmure thinks the plan will focus on earnings and volumes growth. However, with the operating environment as challenging as ever, the broker sees little scope for an improvement in earnings estimates in the short term. 'As such, we believe that the shares will continue to tread water at least until we can see the new targets which will be set on 4 December,' Hitchens concluded. The broker has a price target of 556p for the stock. | mzj71852
12/11/2009 23:33 | It's a fair cop.The order book is much as it was at end June.Brokers live by activity and if you remember that then you will realise that "going to extremes" to stimulate trade is in the nature of their business.Could weaken a further few per cent.Scary stuff!! Wall St has helped Panmure's short term objectives today. This is an industry i'm more than happy to be invested in. PS Seymour raised AMEC to a buy today with a 820p target. | steeplejack
12/11/2009 18:09 | Apparently Amec's order book is less than last year, but seems a bit of over reaction to me. Typical brokers logic. I sold before results, but watching. | llados
12/11/2009 15:07 | Panmure Gordon wanting to buy cheap issued a "sell" rating today after a stellar Interim update. When they say "buy" always sell When they say "sell" always buy. | beaudelaire
12/11/2009 08:47 | Sometimes the stock market reaction is baffling. This is a good update. | steeplejack
09/11/2009 10:45 | Milliband's Nuclear announcement - supported by the Conservatives - must be good news for AMEC. | bluebelle

It's widely expected (this morning's FT) that they are about to announce a fund raising for a major acquisition but I haven't seen anywhere that AMEC is the target : would have thought it was worth a bit more than the amounts they'r e talking about !!! | bluebelle
