I am still in these and it looks like they are bouncing off their two year uptrend and 200 day moving average:

140 looks to be good support, first target is for a run back up to the recent highs at 165/70. Divi yield still 3.5%+

Still moving on the strength of this acquisition - divi yield is still decent.

I would agree this stock has great potential, and the acquisition of Vickers is one of the necessary steps. Price reflects the fact that the main product is Challenger 2 & derivatives, lack of success in export markets means that the order book is drying up fast. Plus Alvis will presumably be liable for the redundancy/rationalisation costs that surely are on the way.

Next step for me is that the UK army now needs a new generation of light armoured vehicles to meet the new expeditionary concept - which means air transportable plus suited to the new Navy amphibious warfare ships. Hopefully news on the MRAV will not be too long in coming - this has the potential to be huge.

And ALV is now the sole UK armoured vehicle producer, with strong Scandinavian links. Corporate activity in rationalising the international industry a possibility?

This looks a great deal for Alvis. Strongest UK position, increased need for tanks/armoured vehicles etc, opportunity to consolidate worldwide position with top brands, cost savings with under-performing Alvis UK business etc. etc.

The price looks ridiculous - £16m is half last year profits and 1/3rd of net asset value. OK 2002 results may be v.poor, but what an opportunity!!!

In 2001, VDS recorded sales of #160
million, profit before tax of

#37 million and net assets of #47 million.

Is it just my enthusiasm or has this stock got fantastic growth potential!

Any comments? As always DYOR!

on the sale of Vickers Defence Systems (VDS) and associated businesses to Alvis for 16.2 mln stg as it also said that current trading for 2002 is in line with market expectations."

If I recall correctly, the prototyping phase for MRAV was to run for 12 months from about April 2001, so an announcement re the next stage (first production tranche??) might come fairly soon. Most recent statements re in-service date were for 2005, which would imply things starting to happen before long imo. FWIW have just put some in my ISA.

I agree. I have been watching ALV since about Feb 2001 and finally bought today. What made up my mind to buy apart from the fudamental attractions was a combination of the price rise and the thought that after the budget, which is likely to contain defence spending increases, Jeff (or is it Geoff?) Hoon might announce specific expenditure that could benefit ALV. Time will tell.

Alan.

Still in these - the trend is still up although they do seem to chop about a lot. 150/55 is still the big barrier but with a 3.5%+ yield I am happy to hang on.

These came off a bit on the results yesterday

but look to be recovering today. It still looks like 150/55 is the short term barrier.

A relatively big move for these again today. There was some chunky volume in february - looks to have been the biggest volume month for about 4 months. Looking for 150/155 short term - a break through here sets up 190 I think.

Agreed Chalmondeley,

With the results out in 14 days, it looks as if some people are latching on to the value. I am not one to speculate on future prices but I would not be surprised if this reaches £2.00 very soon. I understand one of their subsidaries, Hagglunds, has just won a £20M order; maybe another reason the price has moved. Anyway fingers crossed and keep watching!

Good luck all and please don't invest on the basis of my post above, please do your own research.
