you have to worry that the board hasn't come out with an RNS stating "weknow of no reason for the dramatic fall in the share price"

I DID SAY 10P

regarding the raw materials demand, i trust the Baltic Dry Index as always being a leading indicator for raw materials prices, just look at the chart below for yourself

IO price will break back above $100 soon(ish)

johnwalton, i think they were trying to say, the only reason for the drop could be the IO price. Mike also mentioned the price to me in his email.

Absolutely ludicrous drop here now since Monday. Does Iron Ore being down $4 this week warrant such a fall? If it goes back up $4 next week, will this double? probably not.

I cannot see now, how this is not a compelling take over target, given the infrastructure etc.

miamisteve do you have a link to 58 FE prices? Mike qouted $63 to me as well, but that could be spot price and not reflective of what AMI would get due to content etc, but if they are not exporting anything in the next few days the current price is irrelevant.

prices are hard to come by, but if you look at this page, it actually shows prices paid and they are alot higher when you convert RMB back to dollars...

Umetal Briefing:
Imported iron ore market could not find an end to the weak trend with sluggish transactions. Premium of lumps kept increasing as PB fines sold at RMB 515-520/tonne in Shandong by gained RMB 5/tonne decline while PB lumps sold at RMB 690-700 with slight rise. Iron ore traders in Tangshan and Tianjin had optimistic outlook about the iron ore price in next week after the APEC but the space for rebound could be still limited. Iron ore futures rebounded for RMB 5/tonne.

Thanks for that clarity Miamisteve. So if the price AMI gets in dollars hasn't fallen but the exchange rate has, AM should be doing ok, plus of course costs will have fallen...

I'm half expecting this to collapse to around 8p on Monday morning..

Might foolishly brave the falling knife and pick up a few then..

I mean, I assume the company isn't going under though the share price would otherwise have you believe..

This IO is unsustainable, RIO and BHP have really f'd up here and robbed their shareholders of billions of dollars in profits by increasing production to such an extent. 200mm tonnes per year at 100 bucks a ton with 70 bucks a ton profit is better than 300mm tonnes per year at 30 bucks a ton profit, plus far less capital intensive.
