08/5/2013 13:03 | Thanks Dave - looks interesting looks like a change is coming up;-) | garwatts
08/5/2013 12:39 | Garwatts , my mistake, I should have said HSL -Henderson Smaller Companies . Its a rival Investment Trust with superior performance over 5 years and at a biggish discount of 16% to NAV (whereas ASCH is at 0%!) | davebowler
28/4/2013 12:08 | Dave who or what is HLS? | garwatts
23/4/2013 17:32 | The traditional alternative to this one in recent years was SDV. The discount there is closing fast, as well. It's gone from close to 20% several weeks ago to around 7% now. I suspect that will be pushing parity soon, too. It's a great ride as discounts close and yield shares generally rerate a little higher but it's definitely getting harder to find places to reinvest the income paid out. If base rate is expected to remain unchanged for 5 years or more, one wonders where this trend will take us. | aleman
23/4/2013 16:51 | HLS is at a 13% discount with a better track record over 5 years. | davebowler

18/1/2013 15:52 | Hi Davebowler, any chance you could add this link to the ITKY header for ease of NAV checking? Thanks in advance. | praipus
18/1/2013 14:33 | Also worth a look is Acorn -AIF . I've sold my ASCH with a tinge of regret and have AIF and HSL. | davebowler
09/1/2013 11:41 | Trustnet gives SDV gearing of 143% and ASCH 126%. I don't know how they get that. They are clearly not what one normally understands for gearing. Perhaps, they are both simply incorrect, as sometimes happens on aggregator sites. | aleman
09/1/2013 09:30 | Got it from Trustnet | garwatts
09/1/2013 01:37 | How do you get 150%? Total assets £29.3m. Net assets £20.4m, after zeros £8.7m (and £200k overdraft?). Looks like 44% to me. | aleman
08/1/2013 21:19 | Yes SDV have a higher yield but gearing is also approaching 150% and they also have Zeros to consider...... | garwatts
08/1/2013 16:18 | These have really motored of late and the discount has shrunk to the lowest for 4 years. If you think these look a little overbought, SDV still looks good value by comparison. It tends to move in line with ASCH but hasn't followed NAV up recently so its discount is high by the standards of recent years. | aleman

16/10/2012 16:04 | A mediocre performance at best but small caps have been slightly better of late. They have a long way to go before regaining previous highs. I wish Shires would do away with cross holdings. | garwatts
