11/5/2008 17:00 | From UK-Analyst.com: Friday 9th May 2008 Following Thursday's release of the company's interim results, Landsbanki reiterated its 'buy' recommendation and 200p price target for shares in Aberdeen Asset Management (ADN). It said that although the interim results highlighted the negative impact of weaker asset flows on operating margins, the management's focus on reducing the cost base should enable margins to improve during the second half of 2008, while the GPI acquisition should enhance earnings next year. "The group appears to us in better shape than ever before to weather more challenging markets; it has a well-balanced portfolio across asset classes, a growing presence in markets outside Asia and a robust balance sheet," said the broker. "Its lack of exposure to weak industry retail flows should also prove defensive in the current market," it added. Despite the bullish note, the shares tumbled 8.25p to 137.25p. | piedro
06/5/2008 12:33 | Today's early morning placing at 150p contrasts significantly with the price action which has been weak all day. On the face of it a vote of confidence from the institutional holders but it will be interesting to see who the buyer(s)have been. Have Toscafund taken another slug? | networker

02/5/2008 15:18 | Toscafund topping up again... + 3,250,000 since last RNS.... | piedro
17/4/2008 23:10 | Toscafund also piled into TW. which does not seem too clever by the look of the latest IMS - at least in the short term. Of course Hughes is specialist in financials not house building, so the ADN stake may be a more credible move. Having followed RAB's evolution though, I am aware these hedgies can start off making a few shrewd moves - on which they raise large sums of money and can end up substituting their original 'rifle shot' approach for 'spreading it about like confetti'. Hughes has to find homes for his £4bn equivalent under management. | edmondj
14/4/2008 16:41 | Another £50m invested on the 9th April by Toscafund to take their holding to some 101m shares (15.62%). Toscafund are now the largest investor in ADN, having made their initial purchase on 17th March '08. Will they be passive or activist investors? | iroll
27/3/2008 13:55 | The Fund and its underlying investments are down close to 100% since last April, compared with 35%? for the Chinese B shares and so on. Even UK banks are only down 40% or so since Ausust. Thid fund is oversold or has been incompetently invested, ie the balance of sectors it invested in was wrong from last Autumn and has not been sufficiently tweaked , nor is there evidence of effective hedging. In fact, this has the hallmark of a totally duff management sitting doing little for a while as the price drifted . -Which of course, suggests at some point it will really rocket back, as the underlying holdings are not all a load of rubbish. Up 6% today, but thas just short term. | hectorp
22/3/2008 09:59 | Unless it's the 50% fib, but that looks to be broken, maybe support at around 98p? | chopsy
22/3/2008 09:45 | Not sure if there is any charting reason to suspect support/bottom here... | chopsy
21/3/2008 11:02 | I think the 8-3 notifications have to be made whenever holdings exceed 1% in companies that are subject to bid talks. Rio-Tinto and Friends Provident are in these scenarios. ADN's dealings in such companies are normal trading transactions, ie. adjustments to ADN's underlying funds. I agree this is a major move by Martin Hughes, a proven successful operator in finance and banking. | iroll
21/3/2008 10:30 | What do we make of all the Rule 8-3 notifications for ADN? asset sales mostly? and this one: from the January report '....The acquisition of certain US equity sub-advisory mandates from Nationwide Financial Services was completed on 1 October 2007 and integration of this business is proceeding according.....' - buying what by now are distressed assets? I can see why the Fund has not been rising, however Mr Martin would not have bought in without just cause and DD. His Banking expertise is great. | hectorp
21/3/2008 10:28 | Iroll, thanks for the note over on SEY. The fact of the Fund's fall of 100% suggests there will be value already in there, but assuming there are not immense falls to come. will talk again H. | hectorp
20/3/2008 22:04 | Today's RNS announcing a purchase of 64 million shares in ADN to give a 9.82% stake is very interesting. The buyer is Toscafund Asset Management, part of the empire of Martin Hughes who appears to have made a number of successful strategic investments in recent years. For example see AMEC's share price graph since Toscafund took a stake in 2003/2004. Toscafund also was a backer of the recent Virgin bid for Northern Rock. I wonder why Martin Hughes has now turned his attention to ADN and committed approx £80m. Clearly he sees good value at the current depressed price. Watch this space! A couple of links giving background on Martin Hughes and Toscafund........ | iroll

02/2/2008 10:27 | Maybe i am too clever for my own good, but, i sold yesterday and took profits. If it tanks next week, you now know why..lol I think a bit of breathing space just now might show some cheaper buys this month. However i will be watching closely. | focus1800
