PP thought you might find this post from LSE interesting.

I've seen 1 trades when no RNS next day(s) and vice versa countless times. MMs I used to work with have categorically stated it isn't true. Nearly always when no quote requests/trades for a relatively short period of time so it's their way of "checking their lines" and nothing more.

Numerous other ways for MMs to communicate more discreetly and securely, trust me...
