Wegener Corporation (OTCQB: WGNR.PK), a leading provider of equipment for television, audio and data distribution networks worldwide, today announced the receipt of an order valued over $400,000 for Unity 552 satellite media receivers. The receivers will be used within a private educational network to decode live video broadcasts around the world and to increase the number of sites transitioned to DVB-S2 satellite modulation.
The Unity 552 is a high performance satellite receiver for private television networks. It supports DVB-S2 satellite modulation, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/h.264 video in standard and high definition formats.
DVB-S2 modulation offers video broadcasters a wide range of choices to manage satellite service provider limitations, lower operational costs, increase services (when compared with DVB-S) or manage inclement weather. An operator can reduce distribution bandwidth needs of a typical transmission by 20 to 30% by switching from DVB-S to DVB-S2.
An operator can also achieve 40-70% greater signal compression combining MPEG-4/h.264 video compression and DVB-S2 modulation (compared to MPEG-2 video compression and DVB-S satellite modulation).
“WEGENER’s Unity 552 enterprise media receiver, in conjunction with Compel® network control, offers maximum flexibility for any organization wishing to migrate to newer, cost-effective, video broadcast schemes,” stated Troy Woodbury, President and CEO of WEGENER. “It allows an operator to smoothly transition their network from existing content to newer formatted content.”
The order was booked and shipped during WEGENER’s fourth quarter of fiscal 2010.
