French entertainment-to-telecoms conglomerate Vivendi SA (VIV.FR) Friday said the European Commission has approved its acquisition of a 44% stake in French mobile operator SFR, paving the way for the completion of the deal in the next few days.
The European Commission, which has antitrust powers in the European Union, gave its nod to the transaction on Thursday, Vivendi said in an emailed statement.
In April, Vivendi agreed with U.K.-mobile telephone operator Vodafone Group PLC (VOD) to buy the stake in SFR for EUR7.75 billion. Following the transaction, Vivendi will own 100% of the French mobile telephone company.
