French operator Bouygues Telecom, a unit of Bouygues SA (EN.FR), plans new price cuts as its struggles to compete with Iliad SA's (ILD.FR) Free Mobile, French daily Le Figaro reports Monday, without citing sources.
According to the report, Bouygues Telecom will slash prices by up to 40% for its unlimited mobile offers.
The operator has been locked in a price war after the arrival in early January of Free Mobile, the fourth operator in France's mobile market. The new operator's flagship EUR19.90 monthly subscription offer has put intense pressure on Bouygues Telecom, France Telecom SA (FTE.FR)'s Orange, and Vivendi SA's (VIV.FR) SFR.
As of March 1, Bouygues Telecom had already lost 134,000 customers to Free, said Le Figaro.
A spokeswoman for Bouygues Telecom could not comment immediately.
