Siemens AG said Wednesday that it will provide medical equipment and energy support to the victims of the Aug. 4 blast that hit the city of Beirut in Lebanon.
The German technology conglomerate said its medical-equipment subsidiary Siemens Healthineers AG is set to provide ultrasound systems and a mobile X-ray unit to be used in Beirut hospitals, while Siemens Energy will give two mobile gas turbines to be used to generate electrical power in the city.
The turbines have a total electrical capacity of about 80 megawatts and are able to provide electricity to about 150,000 people, the company said. The use of the turbines, which is worth about $40 million a year, will be free of charge for one year for Beirut's population, the company said.
Delivery and startup of the turbines is expected in the next six to 12 weeks, Siemens said.
