Norwegian oil and gas major Equinor ASA said Wednesday that some workers on the Johan Sverdrup field on the Norwegian continental shelf have gone on strike but production is continuing as normal for now.
Wage talks between the Norwegian Oil and Gas Association and the trade union Lederne broke down late Tuesday, and 43 members of the Lederne union who are working on Johan Sverdrup have subsequently gone on strike.
Agreements were reached with the other two trade unions involved in the talks, Industri Energi and Safe.
In total, the three unions involved in the talks represent around 7,000 employees that work on Norwegian offshore oil and gas installations for companies including Equinor, ConocoPhillips Norway, Aker BP ASA, Lundin Energy Norway, Repsol Norway and Wintershall Dea Norway, among others.
"Production continues as normal for the present, as the assessment is that the field can be operated safely," Equinor said. "Project activities are reduced due to the strike."
