BUDAPEST--All of Hungary's natural gas storage units should be state owned, premier Viktor Orban said Friday.
The country through its state-owned energy group MVM Zrt. bought German energy company E.ON AG's (EOAN.XE) Hungarian natural gas units, with the transaction closing earlier this week.
"This is how we can permanently control prices," Mr. Orban said on state radio.
At the beginning of the year, the government started to cut household utility and energy prices and is set to continue ahead of general elections in spring next year.
The government has been in talks on a purchase agreement about another major storage unit that is partly owned by Hungarian oil and gas firm MOL Nyrt. (MOL.BU).
This unit, called Szoreg-1, is owned jointly by MOL and the Hungarian Hydrocarbon Storage Alliance.
