Mercedes-Benz plans to allow drivers to charge their electric vehicles at Tesla Supercharger stations starting next year while the company builds out its own charging network.

The German automaker said Friday that beginning in 2024, customers can use its proprietary charging service, Mercedes me Charge, to access Tesla's more than 12,000 fast-chargers in North America. Mercedes me Charge covers more than 90,000 charging points in North America and Tesla Superchargers will be viewable in Mercedes-Benz's in-vehicle maps and apps.

Mercedes-Benz is simultaneously expanding its own charging network and integrating charging hardware identical to Tesla's, the North American Charging Standard, in its EVs starting in 2025. The company said it has a goal of installing more than 2,500 high-power chargers under its own brand in North America by the end of the decade, with the first charging hub opening expected by the end of the year.

Mercedes-Benz is the latest carmaker to adopt Tesla's charging network for its slate of EVs. Tesla rival Rivian Automotive struck a similar deal in June, following in the footsteps of Ford and General Motors.
