Impala Platinum Holdings Ltd. said Friday that total 6E concentrate volumes rose 11% to 859,000 ounces for the first quarter of fiscal 2021, and that production losses attributable to the coronavirus pandemic were minimal.
6E concentrates are platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, osmium and gold.
The South African platinum miner said that for the period from July 1 to Sept. 30 gross metric tons milled at managed operations rose 18% to 6.13 million metric tons. The company said this was mainly due to the maiden inclusion of Impala Canada, and production gains at the Marula, South Africa, project.
"Implats has delivered a strong start to fiscal 2021 with pleasing improvements in safety and a number of notable operational gains," Chief Executive Nico Muller said.
