Average mortgage rates in the U.S. fell in the latest week, according to mortgage-finance company Freddie Mac (FMCC).
Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sean Becketti said in prepared remarks Thursday that the declines marked a stark contrast from last week's jump after the Federal Reserve's announcement.
For the week ended Thursday, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 4.23%, compared with 4.3% a week earlier and 3.71% a year earlier.
Rates on 15-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 3.44%, compared with 3.5% the previous week and 2.96% a year earlier.
Five-year Treasury-indexed hybrid adjustable-rate mortgages, or ARMs, on average, were at 3.24%, compared with 3.28% the previous week and 3.89% a year earlier.
