Average fixed mortgage rates in the U.S. were flat in the latest week, but remained near lows reached last year, according to mortgage-finance company Freddie Mac.
"After another week of financial-market oscillations driven by rumors of potential limits on oil production," the 10-year Treasury yield edged up 0.05%, and the 30-year mortgage rate remained unchanged, Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sean Becketti said in prepared remarks Thursday.
For the week ended Thursday, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 3.65%, unchanged from a week earlier and down from 3.76% a year earlier. Rates on 15-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 2.95%, flat from the previous week and below the 3.05% average rate a year earlier.
Five-year Treasury-indexed hybrid adjustable-rate mortgages, or ARMs, on average, were at 2.85%, compared with 2.83% the previous week and 2.97% a year earlier.
